Just got myself a Ronco Dehydrator

Secured one on eBay, decent price and excellent condition. Can't wait to dry my mushies out when they're done Is this a...excuse the pun..."set it and forget it" type thing? I mean can I pick the mushrooms, set them in the dehydrator, and pull them out later all cracker dry? I've heard they're the best way to dry so I'm interested in some opinions.

I think that the roncos are the kind with no temp control and get preaty hot and need to have the heater element removed. I was always told to stay away from roncos

Sorry to say but the ronco website says it has a constant running temp of 135degrees, my nesco runs at 95 degrees.

Damn I figured he'd be the best...
I read a thread though that said anything under 200? is fine. (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4919303#Post4919303)
How would I go about removing the heater? Is it difficult? Does anyone else here have a Ronco that can give me a testimonial or two?

You don't need to remove the heater. If the drying temp is at 135 degrees, as stated earlier, you'll still be well within acceptable ranges. I usually ingest my mushrooms with tea, hot tea that is. The heat tolerance for psilocybin is relative high, much higher than 135 degrees.

I don't think that puppy has any fan. If you disconect the heater. It would DO NOTHING. Heat convection is how it works. No heat, NO NOTHING.
It will work.
Just use the upper two trays. If you think there is a temp risk. Others have used them, without a potency loss. A Nesco, is a FAR BETTER machine, IMHO.

Disconnecting the heating element takes away the point of having a dehydrator. You might as well throw the mushrooms in front of a regular fan if you do that.
I like the Nesco myself!

lol Yeah I guess you're right. I figured it had a fan in it too, I mean it looks like it would. I'll see how it works me.

I belive that the only thing that people worrie about with heat is destroying what little psilocin might be there as that one I belive brakes down at a way lower them the its freind psilocybin. The order that I would list the best drying methods would be Frezze dry, fan dry,heat/fan dehydrator/heat dehydrator. I dont think that dessicants are ecconomical. so I left them out.

No, the Ronco dehydrater does not have a fan. It works on convection, like agar says. I have one of them, no fan.
