Can't find vermiculite for the life of me

I have been to Bennys, Home Depot, Walmarts, and two flower stores today to look for vermiculite. No one has it. No one. PLus, most people I have asked don't even know what it is. I've never had trouble finding it before.

Can I just leave the vermiculite out of Ryche Hawk's birdseed substrate? I have the flax seed and the brown rice flower and the birdseed already.

get your phone book out and start calling the mom and pop garden shops. they usually carry it. and if you have a hydroponics shop in your area they usually carry it too. if that fails, you might have to order some online or you can pm me and if you pay for the shipping and the cost of sum of the stuff ill get it for you, my bag is like 10 pounds for like 6 bucks or something. but i think you really should try to get sum verm.

VERY VERY suprised they didnt have it at the flower stores. That is unless they really were floral stores. But if you went to a garden center then I am suprised. Walmart carries it as a seasonal product. Many places do. Vermiculite is a prime ingrediant for soiless plant mix. Find your local garden store. Look in the phone book, under garden. Have you tried a Franks nursry. Do not omit the verm from your recipie.

sorry that was confusing sounding. the shop i got it from was i believe 6 or 7 bucks for 10 lbs of verm, that sounds better sorry ;o)

I guess i'll check out some stores in boston tomorrow to see if I can find some. If not, then I'll take you up on the offer to have it mailed to me. I was just really eager to get started this weekend on my grow, but i don't want to fuck it up by leaving it out...

I commute to Boston for work, and there's a hardware store in Harvard Square that sells it, so I'll drop in there on Monday.

If you cant find any and dont want to order it from the internet then I suggest you look into doing a whole grain tek. The 9er tek is good because it uses plain brown rice. However, you'll need a pressure cooker.

verm is very expensive when bought in small bags.
you get about 10litres for like $5 in the small bags, $15 will get you 4cubic feet
