I don't know why you would add coffee for nutrients... Coffee grinds and chaff are often used because they are often FREE.
If you want nutes, grind up some kinda grain. What do you think the brf is, really? Brown Rice. Ground up fine. Coffee grindERS on the other hand, although not free, often become the source of nutrients via their ability to render hard seeds into soft powder. Whatya got? oats? wheat? rye? millet? Do you see that they are roughly the same idea? If you really want to supplement the standard pf tek, you probably oughta just do it straight first.... but a few teaspoons of yeast in the whole batch wouldn't hurt. Too much flour would be too thick. That's why you cut it with vermiculite. Straight grains, however, must be thoroughly sterilized, but have an open, porous structure that allows oxygen to permeate the spawn... So powdered rice has a smaller volume than whole rice, right? Mixing the flour with the verm approaches the density of nutrients of a jar of grain because the powder is evenly dispersed and takes up less room...
See what I'm saying? PF tek IS highly nutritious. Coffee may have something to with the speed of colonization, so go ahead and add a little for fun, but just don't veer too far yet. Later experiment. Now, follow teks and SUCCEED.
Good luck. have fun. Come back and update

Make a pot of coffee, cut it with water 50/50 and use that in place of water in whatever tek you're using. I've read that gives good results. I'm using coffee in sclerotia jars. It's working spiffy, but I haven't set up a control for comparitive results.

Coffee is very acidic and will need neutralising with lime. Coffee is high in nitrogen which is good for shrooms.

Uhm, Almonds? neato. I would just makes sure to go LIGHT on the almonds, bro. Ever seen almond butter? No shrooms will eat almond butter. LOTS of oil there, very nutritious, but be very frugal with that. A shroomery search for almonds produced one thread here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post2790708 that discusses the presence of CYANIDE in cherry pits and in natural almonds. It's been cultivated out, apparently, but never forget that mushrooms have a peculiar tendency to concentrate some really toxic shit. Be careful. good luck

I'd advise against coffee grinds in a pf cake. The reason being, coffee isn't as nutritious for fungi as the brown rice flour. I've made 1/2 pint cakes of coffee grinds/verm, and they fruited 'ok' but not as well as the control brf cakes fruited alongside with the same isolate. In other words, the coffee grinds will dilute the brf. Coffee grinds are a great additive in bulk substrates however. RR

What? yeast is bacteria. This would be more trouble than it is worth I think. You would have to activate, and then kill the yeast. If some yeast manages to survive, you will be making beer, not mushrooms.

I was wondering this same thing since I have a lot of coffee grounds getting thrown out everyday. I figured I would just experiment with my next grow and see what happens.

Not so fast on the yeast, there, captain.
FIRST OF ALL, YEAST IS A FUNGUS.
Second of all, you're going to kill it, right along with all the bacteria and fungi in the Brown Rice Flour.
If yeast were a problem, it wouldn't be a part of so many agar recipes and liquid culture recipes, now, would it?
I don't just make stuff up here, kids. I read lots. I've used lots of yeast, from brewing to baking to sprinkled on toast and mixed in smoothies, yeast is awesome shit.
Really, the point is that you shouldn't supplement the pf tek. Maybe alter it and vary it according to taste, ie. coffee for stimulation, but the basic recipe is very nutritious and works well as is. That's the point.... Love
