Powerfull dream I had...

I wan to first off, thank all of those on here that helped me make personal sense out of my vision reguarding brother fox eating my hand. I have digested and accepted fox as my ally, and he is with me.
Last night after doing some reading by Don Miguel Ruiz, I dozed off for the night and had the following dream (keep it short for brevity's sake)
I was on a long, long journey down a slowly flowing river. The journey was going to take many, many days. I am unsure as to what type of craft I was on, but the river was very large and very slow moving.
At one point in the journey I saw a dearly departed friend of mine, who was taken early in life (at about 20 in a car accident). He was probably one of the first close associations I had ever lost in my life.
I remember being shocked to see him, and noticed that his eyes were blue. I don't think his eyes were blue (it's been several years since his accident).
I said to him, "Woah, you're supposed to be dead!?"
He looked me in the eyes (at this point he was sort of standing in the river with the water at his shoulder level floating alongside me in the river)...and then he spoke the following.
"Dead? No...I'm just taking a break."
And then he proceeded to go past me down the river. . .
I'm not really sure what it quite means, but I have the feeling that he knows death isn't final and with my recent spiritual transformation , perhaps he came to me to help me learn some lessons about the afterlife.
I wasn't scared in any way, and in the morning I felt rather pleased that I had a dream of significance. I knew this dream was meant to be some kind of message or lesson.
I've also been dreaming quite a bit about past pets that have departed, cats and dogs that have either run away and never come back or died. I seem to be surrounded by those who were close in life and have departed. I guess it is a really comforting feeling...
Anyone else have dreams like this? Does the river signify the "stream of universal consciousness"? Perhaps it represented my own personal spiritual journey down that route of consciousness?

It may be an idea you have in your own mind about the after life or the beyond, or it may not. Either way I would see it as a don' worry, we keep moving on and that the past who mean something to you are always there.

you can interpret the dream better than us.
It sounds like to me based upon how the dream sounded....... that your interpretations are correct.

Personally, I get alot of clear messages in dreams. My dreams are never very...fantastic, as going for a journey down a river...but I have dreamed about arrests, break-ups, and other small things before they happen.
Other times, I wake up totally confused and detatched knowing that I was just in some totally bizzare place where I definately wasn't even a body, sometimes coming out of them with one or two images that I try to make sense of later.
Either way, I am a firm believer that much of dreaming is OOBE/Projection and I think you really did get visited by your friend.

Somtimes I find that "memories" I have in my waking life are nothing but dreams! I'll find myself saying days, weeks and even months later:
"Oh yeah, I guess that never really happened did it...? It must have been a dream..."
Personally, even when lucid in my dreams they seem as real to me as my every-day life. Tactile sensations, smells, sounds. It's "just as real"...It's made me redefine my definition of real.
Without sounding like a ripoff from the matrix, what is real? If you can smell, taste, see, hear and touch it with all your senses, then isn't it real?
I'm starting to feel like every dream I have is a journey to a diffrent, alternative universe. Each "universe" i visit seems to have a slightly diffrent 'vibe' to it...just like this reality has a certain 'vibe'.
I've been to some amazing places...
