I am an organ donor. If I am dead....I won't need my organs that much now will I. Might as well give them to somebody who needs them.

Yes. The way I look at it, I'm a sinner no matter what religion you believe in. So, I'm hoping to knock a couple years off my sentence by leaving my innards to someone who can use them.

I did and I am. I have always been a donor. Ever since I recieved my liscense. At first, my family urged me to, but since then, I have decided on my own that it is the best decision. What do we need our organs for, after we die? Our spirit lives on, but it's nice to know that it will live on in more ways than one.

I'm not.
I was never asked if I want to. I guess I would.
I heard that if you are an organ donor and you're on the verge of dying (say, in a car wreck) that they'll let you die so they can harvest your organs. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but it's feasible.

i am an organ donor.
i can donate just about everything when i am dead except for my heart because it's missing a valve. in a way it kinda sucks because the heart is a big deal and hearts for transplants are always needed. at least i can give everything else. not that they would want my lungs ... they're pretty abused, but hey, they can still be used, right?

I refuse to donate my organs for a couple of reasons.
1) We have the capability, or atleast potential to create organs for use in organ replacement. Yet for some reason, probably "unethical", we arent. 2) While it may be deemed "good" to donate organs, it cannot always be a good thing. What if your liver saved the life of an alcoholic who later goes on to kill someone in a drunken car accident?

I signed the thing on the back of my license(which means jack shit), but have not discussed it with my loved ones. I am all for organ donation, but really haven't made the conscious decision to make my wishes known to my family... probably because I am still young and do not see death in my immediate future.

1. u cant make synthetic eyes, synthetic livers, its not because it unethical, its becuase we dont have the technology to replicate human functions, they are WAY too complex even in our current dreams to replicate. 2. what if my eyes are used to make a cyborg who takes over the world and hangs babies on a clothesline by thier toes for fun. what if ... to death.

in fact, any alcoholic looking for a new liver most likely will not get one, unless their name is Phil Lesh....

Even better, why don't we use death row inmates for medical testing! Or why not have a death match between inmates, only $100 PPV. Two higly profitable means of funding prisons. I personally think that they should perform psychological testing to all inmates. I mean, what is a prision? Isn't it a form of psychology, one that isn't very effective.

I am a organ donor. The fucked up thing is i'm am not allowed to give blood. 11 years ago during my herion addiction I contracted hepatitis A. It's the least serious of the hepatitis strains and is completely curable. There are no traces of the virus in my blood for the last 10 years. In fact the body produces antibodys making it almost impossible to contract it agian. Anyway I went with my wife several times to donate blood and they said no way. After explaining the nature of hepatitis A and the fact there was no way I could infect some else they said "sorry it's just a rule".

I voted No/undecided, but most probably I won't be a organ donor in the future.
It's my wish (albeit a very egoistical one, I know) to have my body untouched when I die. That means no autopsia either at all, it's humilliating in my opinion.
That doesn't mean that I don't think my wish is egoistical, it is, but hey... my body is my sanctuary, and it's not that I don't want others to live longer, it's just that the idea does not really go with my ideals
Maybe someday I'll change my opinion on this matter, who knows. Until then being buried under a tree in full make up it is

Yes I'm a donor...
They can use every single part of me that they want to... If I'm able to help others when I'm dead then why not? I see no reason to not be a donor really... Yeah ok some believe that you won't go to heaven or anything but I don't believe in heaven so that makes it easy...

Fo Sho. I have been from the time I was able to make that decision. If someone can use one of my organs to live that would be great. Its not like i am using them being dead I presume.

psilocyberin said: I refuse to donate my organs for a couple of reasons.
1. u cant make synthetic eyes, synthetic livers, its not because it unethical, its becuase we dont have the technology to replicate human functions, they are WAY too complex even in our current dreams to replicate. 2. what if my eyes are used to make a cyborg who takes over the world and hangs babies on a clothesline by thier toes for fun. what if ... to death.
1) things like eyes arent exactly a life or death situation. Being the son of an optometrist and taking many shits in my life in my dads bathrooms with nothing else to read but articles on the latest in optical advancement. Im not talking about synthesizing organs, Im talking about cloning them. If they can grow a human nose (or was it an ear?) on the back of a lab rat, im sure a liver would be no problem. 2) what I meant to say is that there is no way of measuring the "good" of the act.... especially after you are dead. Maybe it makes you feel good, and you go on throughout your life thinking you have "helped" someone, when in fact your heart was rejected by the recipients body, another surgury was performed and your heart was replaced by a baboons and thrown in the haz-mat bin.

I am. I went to get my driver's license, and the lady asked, "Do you want to be an organ donor?" I'd never really thought about it before, and didn't want to do anything without thinking it over, so I said, "No thanks for now, I'll have to think about it." She marked "Yes" on my license.
