Fruting Chamber Question - Perl lite and air pump

I have read from a post that you do not want the Perl lite sitting in standing water ( Only saturated in water) However, I was thinking about adding a bubbler and air pump in standing water and put pear lite over top. What types of problems if any would i Have with this set up or is this a good idea?
Any ideas would be appreciated!

- I thought I should mention this is for casings not cakes.
If some of you have came across some great post in the past for a fruiting camber for casings ( More automatic the BETTER!) If you would post them, that would be great.
THANKS!!

- Here is the setup for the fruiting chamber I was thinking about. I would like to run it by some of you for ideas that others can use for themselves as well.
Large rubber maid bin, app. 4 ft wide by 1.5 ft tall. 5 drilled air holes in the top for gas exchange app. 1 in. in diameter covered by coffee filter taped on with duck tape. 3 Inches of perlite and app. 1.5 of water. Under the layer of perlite a air pump connected to the bubbler. - Did not know if an cool mist humidifier would produce too much humidity for casings. What improvements would you make if this was your set up for casings? What have you done that works or might not?
Thanks for all the input, I really do appreciate it.

I've always used water at half the depth of the perlite without ever a problem and always had plenty of humidity. Your setup should work just fine. When I used tubs I did have a coolmist connected to two units (tubs) with perlite humidification when doing casings, the coolmist provided plenty of RH in combination with the perlite.

Any time your perlite is submerged, you might as well be using gravel or human bones ~ cause it isn't doing much.

i think the air pump is for air exchange. you won't have to open the lid again until harvest or the water level goes down too far.

So... if the perlite is useless under the water, could you separate the air pump from the perlite. I don't want to waste perlite if i don't have too, but I like the idea of having an air pump so I don't have to fan it all the time.
ideas?

Ok your confused I use the same setup PMP, You dont want to be able to see the water line from the top of pearlite line, fill with water until it is an inch from the surface of pearlite.
