Best guess:

You may also want to check out the political compass test.

Well, if you think about it as down being economic freedom and right being moral control, it does make sense. Yuppies are all about free economy, that?s how they make their money. They also follow a pretty Victorian lifestyle, with many things as taboo for them. That means they tend towards the moral control side of things.
However, we all know that religious fundamentalists (aka Christian fundamentalists) are all about moral control, that?s their shtick. However, although they follow the economic ideals of republicans, they are not the money-makers yuppies are.
So IMO, yea, it makes sense they are together. And don't all the people in economic power profess they are Christians (aka Bush's administration, everyone in senate, etc.)? Of course, that is a discussion for another thread.

It's tough for me to say simply because I think economic issue require individualized attention rather than a blanket policy. Defintly far left on moral issues, and a cross between libertarian & hippie on economic (I know that sounds kinda contradictory, but I think you get what I'm generally saying).

Hey unbeliver, I took that test. I am on the same economic scale that you are, but further left on the social scale by about 5 boxes. Pretty fun test I must say.
Economic Left/Right: -7.50 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.90
I couldn't get the pic saved right, so I couldn't post it.

All this forum is anymore is Lefties and Libertarians. We need someone to mix it up some. Where's a fascist post from looner2 when we need it?

i envision a political map as a sort of wheel, with anarchy in the center and statism on the rim. the different spokes represent different political ideologies, each becoming a more extreme flavor of collectivism toward the edge of the wheel.

That is a very slanted test in my opnion. I mean the first question "If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations." That way the question is worded makes even pro-business people seem like they are against corporations. That is if the humanity choice is on the anti-capitalist side, which is ridiculous. Also, trans-national corporations are made up of people, who are part of humanity!

I agree that the Political Compass test has some rather slanted questions, but somehow, the results always seem to reflect the person's politics anyway.

Just re-took the compass test (http://www.politicalcompass.org/)
Last time I was about -0.2/-4, this time +0.75/-3.44.
Thats quite a shift to the right over just a few months. Fuck me! does this mean I turning into my dad?
The older you get, the more you experience and the more established you become in life, the more left wing crap looks like it is, sorry but fact.

Hmm come to think of it, looking at that graph, I am as right wing as Hitler with the libertarianism of Gandhi.
I am Hitler/Gandhi.
This is going to disturb my mind for a little while.

I think the question he asks is in the nature of "If a chicken and a half lays an egg and a half in a day and a half, how long does it take a monkey with a wooden leg to knock all the seeds out of a watermelon?" I did myself take the test a long time ago but have come to the conclusion that it is somewhat masturbatory and necessarily simplistic without being particularly revelatory. Hah.

So I took the test just now (I took it about a year ago, and it's definitely gotten better, one of their questions used to be, in all seriousness, "Do the Jews deserve some of what has happened to them?"...talk about slanted)
Anyway, I got: Economic Left/Right: +9.75 Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.51
I always find myself in an odd place on these tests, with Milton Friedman (granted a hero of mine) being the only famous person in my little quadrant.
Personally, I vote libertarian, but for economic reasons more than for social reasons. Afterall, if anything could be bought or sold, then what would there be to be authoritarian about...

Just something to ponder:
Political labels are an excuse for those of opposing views to pigeonhole you and then mock you based upon generalized prejudices of everyone under the same label. If asked to define your views with a label, tell them your views are your own, and tell them to figure out your views based on what you say. If they insist on labelling you, do the world a favor and shoot them in the head. Hopefully they didn't have any children, we don't need more stupid people.
