Cakes Not Pinning!
    #5381776 - 03/09/06 03:32 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Hello,

I've recently made 5 fully colonised cakes - and put 1 of them into the terrarium about 2 weeks ago. This one made a small amount of hyphal growths, but then stopped doing anything at all. I then added 3 more which did the same thing. The last one that I added only 1 week ago started pinning within about 3days and now has nearly mature shrooms on it.
I am keeping them at 72-76F and over 95% humidity with plenty of FAE and a light cycle - I cant understand why the other cakes dont seem to want to pin. I am dunking some of them at the moment to see if that will encourage them to start.

any suggestions??

many thanks

Alex

Yep. Sounds just like what mine did, I had 2 (1 pint) BRF jars that I had sit in the FC for 12-14 days.... and nothing.... no fuzzy growth or pinns. So I decided to dunk them, just what you thought to do and magically the next day I saw fuzzy growth and what looks to be pinns forming. (2 days after the dunk) So my conclusion is that you should dunk all of your cakes, its worth it... not only will it add to the size of the first flush but it will prevent stalling of fruiting.

So your on the right track! Hope you get a great 1st flush. Let me know how it goes!
