How long do dry mushrooms keep?

dunno if this is the right forum...
How long do dried mushies keep, and what happens when they get old? I have a bunch of blue meanies (psilocybe azurescens) which i picked and dried back in July. Some of them have been crushed into powder and stuck in gel caps, the others are just in a ziplock bag. They have all been in a dark, dry, airtight, room temp place the whole time, but not refrigerated or anything. They were dried over 2-4 days by placing them in a shoe box on top of a radiator set to low, with the temp of the actual surface of the box maintained between 29-34 deg C.
I took some within a couple of weeks of pikcing and drying, and to give you an idea of their strength, i had 6 caps (about 2.5 grams, each cap would have been a little under 500mg) and i was tripping HARD. I weigh 70kg and it was on a fairly empty stomach. I think if i had 7 it would have been too much, like 6 was borderline on too intense.
SO! As an educated guess, what am i dealing with now? I'm assuming in the last 9 months they have lost their potency a bit, but how much? Apart from being weaker, are there any nasty side effects to old shrooms? Do they go bad like acid? I had acid once that was kept at room temp for 3 months and it was terrible. Made me paranoid and confused, but i didnt trip at all. Was a total headfuck and no joy whatsoever. Would old mushies have any of the negative side effects like bad acid?
And if not, if it's just a potency thing, how many caps should i take now to get the same trip i had from 6 caps, 9 months ago?
I know it's very hard to be specific about this stuff but any educated guesses or past experiences would be muchly apprectiated!!!
Cheers!

I would wager they are as strong now if they were dried and stored right as they were back then, or close enough to not matter. Mushrooms if dried properly and stored well can last for 4 years or more. Retaining a large amount of their potency. I would say take the same amount as last time and have a great time.
Also Psilocybe Azurescens is not the Blue Meanie, Panaeolus Cyanescens is. Azurescens are just one of the two most potent Psilocybes. The other is Psilocybe Cyanescens, again not to be confused with PanCyans.

Cheers Darken! Cool i'll just take 6 again and see what happens. I dont mind if they are a little less potent, just dont want em to be total duds thats all.
With the Blue Meanine thing, that just seems to be slang round here for any shroom anyone pulls from the ground that goes blue, and AFAIK there's one predominent species here in Melbourne (Australia) and i thought it was the Azurescens. But looking at the pics here http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2572507&Main=2572507 I'm real confused now, coz the smaller ones look more like the Azurescens and the larger ones like Cyanescens. Could both these species live in the same habitat?
Here's some (not terribly good) pics of the ones i picked: http://stuff.uniquesolutions.com.au/sh1.jpg http://stuff.uniquesolutions.com.au/sh2.jpg
which ones do u think they are? Just curious, i mean i know they are strong =)

Yes Azures and Cyans grow in similar climates and conditions. They are both wood loving cold fruiting active mushrooms. I one day plan to grow them as I dearly love them.
Pan Cyan is the true Blue Meanie, there is a Cubensis Strain that was named by a Vendor (not a Shroomery Sponsor) who jacks up high prices and renames his strains. He named one the Blue Meanie and sold it for stupid amount for spores. The strain since then has been circulated and who knows what it was originally, but definitely not a Panaeolus Cyanescens. I know it is confusing but in time it will all come clear.
Ill break it down.
Psilocybin Cubensis is the standard mushroom, it comes in a large amount of sub-strains which are nothing more than localized fruits, changed in minor ways by their area of origin but identical in makeup save for some microscopic differences.
Psilocybin Azurescens and Cyanescens are related to Cubensis but grow on wood rather than compost or manure and fruit at lower temperatures.
The Panaeolus Species, Cyanescens included are another active (though not all if I am correct, and some may even be bad to eat) that are a bit more potent that Psilocybe. Panaeolus Cyanescens, the most common, is known affectionately as the Blue Meanie....
Those are the basics.

Oh and some of those microscopic differences are physical or growth differences governed by the spores, like more or less rhizo mycelium or larger or slightly differing shaped fruits, nippled or non.
As for potency people will argue forever about which is more potent. But in the end too many factors come into consideration for an answer to be reached. So just enjoy your journey into Mycology and feel free to ask should have any questions, people here are wonderful and you'll usually get a good answer if you ask in a nice manner.

Well Darken you were more than right! Actually, not only did the mushies not lose any potency, they were STRONGER than the ones i had 9 mths ago. It was a different batch so i dont know why so different. Last time i took 6 caps (about 2.5 - 3 grams) and i was tripping hard, this time i only took 2 caps (about 1 gram) and i was flying along tripping out and just LOVING Infected Mushroom and Raja Ram (from 1200mics) playing LIVE at an outdoor festival here in Melbs. Oh what a day / night!!

I can say that I just had some this past weekend that Ive had for about 3 years and they blew me away. I think its safe to say they can keep potency for quite a long time.
