I'm a bit out of the loop but I'm back from a 5 year break and still have 4 original P. fantasticus syringes. I have had them about 5 years now is there any chance in hell there still any good? they are still sealed from P. Fantasticus.

Meh.. it's possible. Somewhat unlikely, but still possible. If at all possible for you, read up on how to work with agar and then germinate the spores to agar to see if they're still viable. If it colonizes, you could use that myc to start an Liquid Culture [LC].
This stuff will require you doing a bit of reading as well as taking steps to sterility, specifically meaning a glovebox for agar work. It'd really be easier to just spend the 15-20 bucks for a new syringe.

I'll take that bet. If they do work, I owe you a beer. Not because I think you wrong, but because I feel like gambling.

Well it sounds like it is worth giving them a try thanks for the advise. I wonder if these have a grandfather clause since i got them before it was illegal to posses spores in this state alot has changed in 5 years.

It really depends on how the syringes were stored.
I have many syringes close to the 5 year mark stored in my frig... and they are still viable.
So yes there is a chance that they will still be good to use.
I'm moving this thread from the Vendors forum to the Mush Cult forum... this really belongs in there.

mines a guinness!
Let us know how you get on either way. Fantasticus is a brilliant name! Those syringes did have very few spores. If a % lose viability over time you may have to use a lot. If it was me I would make a LC jar with very little LC, I figure it finds a "mate" quicker in a smaller solution since the spores are more concentrated. I would inject an entire syringe in about 50ml of LC.

Roadkill IS right. if they were in a freezer bag or two AND in the fridge, you may still be in luck. however... the FIRST strain i grew out and learned to grow with was the Original PF strain from the Original Psilocybe Fanaticus site. if they work for you, AWESOME!!! if not, the Hawk's Eye is now offering the Original PF strain via www.thehawkseye.com
if you got 4 syringes, make 4 PF cakes (or grain jars) and use 1-2cc's per jar from each syringe. label them accordingly. this will tell you if they're viable or not.
