mycobags - poor colonization after five weeks? fruit?

Hi,
I need your help. i have several MadSeason mycobags, which are still only about 1/3 colonized after five weeks... i've used mycobags before and have never had this problem. these bags colonize fine on the top surface but there is almost no mycelial growth inside the bulk or on the bottom of the substrate. the temperature is kept constant around 84 degrees inside a TIT incubator.
BACKGROUND: i've tried pf tek, pf tek casings, bulk rye, bulk rye casings, and outdoor with poo and all of these have failed to produce fruits. the only success i've ever had was many years ago when i was a "newb" and used mycobags. that's why i am giving them a try again. but now, they're sucking...
THE QUESTION(S): what would happen if i went ahead and introduced fruiting conditions to mycobags that are only 50% colonized or so? it's been five weeks and i am very concerned to OVER-colonize this ecuador strain. also, does anyone know how important mycobag gas exchange is during the colonization process (i.e. if the bags were not fully extended in the incubator, would this be a cause for concern?) it will be fruited in the bag.

I'm not sure how good an idea it is to start pinning with half the sub uncolonized. You might want to consider breaking the sub up by squeezing on the bag so the colonized area is mixed well with the uncolonized area.
As for getting it to finish, you might remove it from the incubator so it's exposed to some fresh air. Just throw a towel/box over it to keep it from pinning. Myco bags, being larger than quart jars, create more heat, so there's less need to incubate, though if you're innoculating with a syringe, an incubator would be useful until it gets going.
I've only used mycobags for G2G, so take this as food for thought.

thanks for your thoughts. i've broken it up several times--it doesn't seem to help significantly. i didn't think air exchange was good during incubation. maybe these bags need more air?

ok, so if i allow the bags more expansion space, they'll start to colonize? is this why the tops colonize and the bottoms won't? is it BAD to be keep colonizing since it's been FIVE weeks already? thank you

I'm having this problem asweel in one of my bags. It's fully colonized on the top and sitdes then on the bottom (where the first signs of growth showed up). Well, to cut a long story short, i got frustrated and gave it a proper old shake and broke up most of the colonized bits in order to get the uncolonized bits colonized and the myc has sort of disappeard for now, but from what i understand it will come back with a vengence, right? Do you think this will have ruined it completely or should I still be fine?

I had a similar situation. I use an oven bag and filled it with a 50/50 verm grain mush. It made a nice fluffy substrate, so I did a grain to sub transfer. It began to colonize Nicol. Once there were some large white spots spreading over the surface, I broke it up and mixed it around. I never picked back up again. It just sat and eventually began to smell. So I tossed it. I am currently trying again with a proper myco-bag with a filter patch using a PF style substrate. This time I nocked it up with a mycelium syringe. We'll see. I haven't quite figured this one out yet myself. Gook Luck.

I never had a problem with those bags. Some strains do seem to colonize slower then others in mycobags though. Have you been shaking the bag periodically? 5 weeks isn't too long if they aren't contaminated and not 100% colonized.

It would definitely help to expand the bag out. I'm growing some grain bags, and with a few enviroment conditions changed, I'm satisfied with the results. Expand the bag and check it in a week. If it doesn't get any better, I'd fruit them.
