Quick question about horse poo sterilization
    #5378024 - 03/08/06 04:03 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Could I just put horse poo in an oven bag and pressure cook them for an hour or so? Has anyone done this before? I thought I had read about someone doing it, but I could not find the info in the database

You CAN pressure cook it, yes. But you won't have good results. Mungo is correct. It kills beneficial micro-organisms. Its just easy to pasteurize than to pressure cook though. I use my PC to pasteurize, just without the lid.

Well actually, the main adverse effect this would have is making it extremely susceptible to contamination, due to the death of those beneficial microbes. It would not, however, have any adverse effects on potency or size.

However, oven bags won't hold up in the PC, and it takes quite a bit longer than just an hour, considering the size and amount of substrate. Blue Helix's tek is the way for you to go if you want to do the poo sterilization thing.
