Rocker messed up =[

I was PCing some jars today, and out of nowhere I hear this terrible, loud HISS. I look back at my PC, and the rocker-weight is lifted up some, with steam shooting in all directions.
I took it off and set it back on, and after about 10 more minutes on high heat (I wanted to get it to pressure), the rocker lifted up again.
Scares the heck outta me .
Anyone know what's up? My PC has never done this before, and I've been using it for quite some time now.

are you using the mirro brand cookers? If so make sure the weight isnt in alignment to be taken apart. Ive never seen this happen honestly but it could be that its just in the right spot to get pushed off. Def keep an eye on your cooker, having the weight offset like that can run your PC dry pretty quickly.

Tape a nickel or quarter to the top of the rocker. The little bit of extra weight should keep it on.

Mine will lift like that and let out loud hisses if the stove is turned up too high. Try just turning down the stove a bit until you get a gentle rocking.

No disrespect intended, but this is pretty dangerous information to suggest. This could easily exceed the cookers pressure rating and lead to a catastrophic failure.
I would never suggest this to someone whoe may not be as knowledgeable as yourself.

So true! But understand thats how God weeds us out! LOL Seriously never try to fix the symptom fix the problem, thats how the pro's do it anyway. Make sure your weight as well as the vent are clean and unobstructed then as you've always done turn the heat down at the first sign that pressure has been reached (giggling).

Do not modify your pressure cooker. 1. Make sure your PC is level when using. 2. When it's cool remove the lid and clean the vent pipe with a pipe cleaner wire. Check the weight and make sure their isn't a piece of grain or some gunk in there where it meets the steam vent. 3. Manage your heat source better. It's more than likely just too much heat. Don't assume that the same setting on your heat source is supplying the same amount of heat as it used to.

the coin trick worked for a friend.
...probably a better idea to try adjusting the heat first though.
