Fuck college anyways. If you don't like it, you'll be better off doing a trade. Most of the time, I feel like I'm wasting my time here.

Being a Poli. Sci. major you are wasting your time unless you are going to go to law school.

also im sure you know but if you take big risks now with that trust fund you could really live the lazy life later on this is sort of my plan. also in a similar situation myself i got house, cars ect paid for so pretty much all the money i make will go toards a buisness.

UNION APPRENTICESHIP:
Advantages:
1. The training is top notch. 2. The pay is usually very good (once you become a journeyman). 3. You don't have to pay for the schooling. 4. You immediately start working and earning money.
Disadvantages:
1. You are beholden to the union. The union pays for your schooling which means you have to play by their rules. If the union says, "You can't go do this or work here" then you can't go do that or work there. 2. It takes five years to get your journeyman's license. Most technical schools will have you out in 1/4 the time. 3. Union work is notorious for drying up. When this happens you will need to travel (oftentimes very far away) to find work. This can put a strain on things if you have a family. 4. You are financially beholden to the union in many ways. You have to give them dues and all kinds of shit. Yes, you do get stuff like a retirement account and legal counsel if you would need it, but I don't like the idea of having an organization take a lot of my money to offer me services. I'm a small-government kind of person. 5. It can be hard to get sponsored to get in. There is a lot of nepotism when it comes to apprenticeship spots.
TECHNICAL SCHOOL:
Advantages:
1. You get in and out quickly. Most technical schools are from 16-24 months. 2. You are not beholden to anybody. You can do whatever you want once you graduate. You can even apply to take your journeyman's test after you have a certain amount of work hours. So, you can join the union even if you never went through the apprenticeship program.
Disadvantages:
1. The academic rigor is usually quite lax. 2. It can get expensive paying for school.
I know a guy who went through the union apprenticeship program and he is retired now. He made good money and he is comfortable. I also know guys who went to technical school, started their own electrical businesses, and they make a killing.
However, there are some things you should know about residential wiring:
1. You will make good money if you run your own business and you know how to do it. 2. You will make good money if you do residential stuff on the side and you don't report it to the I.R.S. (under the table work). 3. If you work for somebody else doing residential wiring you will not make good money unless you go to an area that is having a construction boom (Pheonix, Las Vegas, etc..). Anywhere else though you will be earning $8 an hour.

I was going to do this same thing then I wired a house and found out I fucking hate running wires. I'd rather frame a house for 14$ an hour than make 25$ doing that crap, I can't stand it. I think I'd rather be a plumber.

I like ladies. Unfortunately, I do not like anything that you can study. I have no interest in any occupational training or education. The best I can hope for is something that I can tolerate. I can tolerate electrician stuff.

I actually hated college. I didn't fit in and I would leave every Friday the second my last class was done. I'm too anti-social (and too old now) for a college environment.

How far did you get into an EE degree? The first 1-2 years are really boring. The end of the second year starts getting interesting. Then 3rd and 4th years are quite fun. You actually learn all the necessary Fourier series math, or partial differential equations to really make things that are interesting. Robots, high quality audio amplifiers and such. Also you can start doing research those years, and you dont have to take extraneous classes really. So depending on when you left, you might like it a lot more coming back.

Ever thought of becoming a pharmacist? You get your pharm.D in six years and then right after you can get your license. Dr. Randall sounds nice, doesn't it? The course work itself is very interesting if you like organic chem, bio, and drugs. Once you graduate, the work itself is quite easy and you mostly count pills and answer people's questions. However, the pay is great, about 70k+ out of college and there is a large demand for pharmacists that is not being met.
Or you can go for a bs in pharmaceutical sciences(grad school and phd if you want also) and ultimately end up working for a pharm company researching and developing drugs, marketing, etc.

Also, the class is full of immature and boisterous people of below average intelligence. Not only is it commonplace for the teacher to be interrupted by catcalls and fart noises every five seconds, but it is a given that every day at least one person will ask how to transfer fractions into decimals. I can't help but roll my eyes when we spend days on some topic that I managed to understand in ten minutes. I don't want to give the impression that I am claiming to be a genius....I'm not even close to that intellectual level. But, my acumen is far superior to most of the people in my class.
sounds like me in my program. do you actually plan on becoming an electrician? are you doin res or industrial electrical shit?
