Anybody else have midterms this week?
I have 4. Just finished my second one and have two more. This is the toughest week I have ever had in school. Good thing spring break is next week, I just want to get stoned. I cant even remember the last time I smoked out.

I don't have any midterms, but I have a hard-assed translation due tomorrow, half a novel to read, and an in-class essay (in Chinese) on Friday.
I feel for ya', man.
Best keep your ass off the internet, though, lest you get nothing done at all.

OO Analysis and Design - no midterm, but had one test three weeks ago, and then another test next week.
Intro to Database Design - bird course for me, I havnt been to a single lecture and still got 82% on the mid-term
Gothic Lit - I actually really like/enjoy this course, have been keeping up with reading/homework/etc, so was easy to prepare for, wrote it on Monday and feel I did really well.
Intro to Stats - I have failed this course in the past, I have the midterm for it tomorrow, a bit worried, but not horribly so
Creative Writing - no midterm in this course. However, I do have about 30 pages of prose I need to write in the next few weeks which is making me a bit gAH!
My week off school was two weeks ago - I spent most of it high, or recoverng from being high, only to get high again once I was recovered. My BF twisted my rubber arm and ended up doing far more XTC than I had planned on doing :P --- but, had an amazing time and was a good mental 'reset'- I got the party-party mode out of my system and found it easier to focus on school since then as I'm not always itching for a crazy ass weekend.

Mine are a week and a half from now
Danish as a foreign language, i've only been in the class one term and am smarter then the other four people (good thing about obscure languages is the small class size).
History of Danish Films. This one should be all right, atm i'm taking a break from writing a 6-8 page paper for that class, then a final...blergedy ima mite worried but I'll do fine.
Art history...DEVIL...-cough- Boring ass two hour lecutres once a week make my life miserable. I have to study for days just to do decenlty on this one, although i got to 'borrow' my gf's old paper and i just revised it so
Then i'm home freeeeee for 9 glorious days of drug induced stupor
-------------------- PM me reading suggestions, I might just take you up on your offer.

Huh, I liked my art history class.
Fortunatly my two hardest midterms are the ones I finished, and I did ok on both of them (physics and calculus)
Now I have Logic (which is way easy) and Rome history which is hard for me due to the memorization and lack of concepts. Rome history is fun though.

Sounds like the life of an Info Sys major to me. I got a B.S. in that shit a few years ago and now I just want to get rid of it. It's a curse!
Whats in that Gothlic lit class? Older stuff or anything modern like Poe?
If you need any help, PM me.. i've been through all that crap.. status, stats for business, accounting, vba, sys analysis, database design, ripping my hair out, punching my desk and screaming at my computer... etc...

here here... i loved my art history... i was a couple classes short of an art history minor... it's one of the things i'd consider going back to get a master's for
Working in a "boring" museum all your life is much better than stuck behind a computer 10 hours a day. Trust me.

Yep, Info Tech Management. The 'techy' courses like programming and database admin are so basic its insulting that I am paying $500ish per course to take them.
The management and analysis courses I can see value in - but the material is so dry it makes me want to cry.
I think my english courses are my only saving grace that makes me sane - I skip my IT courses all the time, but always make it a point to goto my english lectures, they are actually interesting and sort of 'show you how to think, not what to think' as opposed to the IT courses.
The Gothic Lit course is really cool, it really gets into examining how the stories tie in with the culturual anxieites and what was going on in society at the time.
The reading load is a bit heavy, but most of the stories are short and can be read in a few days.
The list of books/reading is
- Henry James - The Turn of the Screw - Horace Walpole - The Castle of Otranto - Marry Shelly - Frankenstine - J. S LeFanu - Carmilla - Robert Louis Stevenson - The Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde - Angela Carter - The Bloody Chamber - Poppy Z. Brite - The Exquisite Corpse - The movie version of Rebecca (I had to read this in another course a year or two ago, and really enjoyed it) - Edgar Allen Poe - The Fall of the House of Usher - The Newgate Calendar Stories - Vernon Lee - Oke of Okehurst - Marry Elizabeth Braddon - Good Lady Ducayne
(reading not in that order).
The Castle of Otranto was an interesting read - but also quite hard. No quotes around who was saying what and very poor puncutation, kept having to re-read parts to figure out who was saying what to who, and the whole 'omg, I'm bored of writing and need to tie up a zillion lose ends in two pages' feel at the end of the book was a bit funny
Frankenstine and Dr. Jekyll were actually very interesting. I had the 'hollywood' image of the stories in my head, and actually knew very little about the originals - was pretty neat to see how they actually started.
Looking forward to reading Exquisite Corpse, I've heard alot of mixed things about it, and the teacher has said that in previous years, students have actually complained because the novel is 'tooo graphic' for them and they dont want to read it.
The thing that sucks though, is I probably got another year and a half of school after this. In my 3rd year of a 4yr program - but will probably be doing a victory lap of a 5th year to play catchup (have had to drop courses to make time for work/etc so I can pay the rent) - and I've taken pretty much every english elective that's offered at school, and wont have any new ones to take while finishing off the rest of my stuff. *laugh*
I'm considering going back and working on an english major once I get my bach of commerce done (after working a few years of course), I'll have alot of credits to put towards it already, so dont think it'd take that much to get it.

Meh. Some extra knowledge will always slip in there. Go to your easy IT classes anyways. At least to do homework for another class and to get to know the teacher.
The most important thing in college isn't so much grades as it is
a) learning something and b) standing apart from the crowd. A teacher is just as likely to give a recommendation for an avg student that he knows the kid's name of and knows that he/she works hard as a student with an A they hardly know.

Well, generally - the slides for the class are always posted online before the actual class. If it looks like something 'new to me' is in the outline/slides, I'll show up
- but even then, I end up getting bored to tears and regret showing up. I'd rather be using that time to work on classes that are 'harder' and doing something productive.
Still make it a point to get in friendly with the teachers however to make sure they know who I am.

Remember, college is just getting you ready for the real world where you have to kiss people's asses every day. Better start with the professors... they at least give you recommendations and opportunities whereas your future bosses will be doing the opposite... and then you still have to kiss his ass :P

Yeah, I have a few tough mid-terms this week (two tomorrow, one Thursday, and one Friday). I'm in dire need of some psilocybin, and can't wait until Friday afternoon rolls around.

Exquisite Corpse is amazing. At once harrowing and erotic -- you'll like it, if you're half as perverse as I.
