One Is many, many are one, ...as many!
In, as in; as!
A shaman could be described as a human being, being able to be all its other beings, as/from the one...
The one being 'that' you are, yourself!
All humans are shamans, if defined as the dreamer. As you lay in bed, and dream you walk about in a world of apples. eating all the apple you could dream of eating... being, the body in the bed, imagining the body eating apples, ... one as the one, is on a journey, just as shamans c-/w-ould.
Being aware of the 'falling asleep', in grounding your body, let your conscious self flow about. And in not being restricted by the motion of body, having grounded it out, one could wake up in similar bodies/being, & a flower if you like?
"The world around you, ... have you around 'it self'... your dust!" -Unknown :P
What goes in must come out.. (in 'a same') ..

I think he talks about putting your body - your material form - in a second plan, so our non-material being can take it's place, instead of being so focused on our body, we can reach other levels of knowing the soul.

hum.. I guess.. But to explain it really simple..
it is what you know of as sleep paralysis..
to be able to dream, and not walk about, and move and toss and turn, one ground/paralyze the body you are in/as ..
sleep paralysis is not just when you wake up, and cannot move.. that is just when you "awaken" before your body.. Similarly, when you "sleep walk" the paralysis is ended, before you wake up..

I just woke up, and is in a foul mood, so please rephrase if I did not answer the question.

Being a Being is Being; Being inquisitive leads to awareness within and outside the self.

""Can you explain how this is for you?""
You know that feeling when you close your eyes.. Still knowing where stuff is?
Forget that feeling, and substitute your own, ... KNOW you lay in the very same bed, but in a totally other place. Then imagine it being your dream body, you move, if you need to scratch etc... (BTW most itches are you as your body, checking if you are asleep yet.)
You may/will notice the feeling of feeling that you are getting heavy, yet absorbed by the 'world', feeling free...
...then as you move your arm, you can feel the "wakeful" arm, laying still, and grounded out.. then from there it is just a matter of "finding the right 'muscles' .. " ...
That is at least some of an explanation!
