2nd flush is dying!! help me!

ok, my first flush was great! it wasnt an awesome pinset, but the mushrooms worked (woah.... i mean... woah.) and there are enough to keep me happy for about a year lol.
but now im at my second flush, from 2 casings (wbs spawned to poo and cased with straight verm). the pins are aborting en masse. theyre turning black, and even the ones that arent black are opening and theyre like 1/8th of an inch tall. when i pick them, theyre slimy and teh caps pop right off. also, myc is growing on some of teh little pins
from what ive read here on the site, the myc growing on the pins, the aborts, and the sliminess means too much water. on my first flush, i watered like crazy so taht they would grow bigger (and it worked). ive been airing these guys out a LOT in order to get rid of the water, but it doesnt seem to be working. at hyphae's reccomendation i put a dry layer of verm on top of both casings that will hopefully absorb some of the excess water.
ive been trying to pick all the aborts and the ones that are already open so that i can get a healthy pinset in there, but all of em keep dying.
does anyone think theres something else to blame besides excessive water? the rh according to one of my (crappy) hygrometers is 75, and the other (crappy) hygrometer reads 80. i fan them 3 - 4 times a day and they get about 12-14 hours of light.

excessive water is usually what it is. whenever i have a problem like this it usually ends up with too much water on the caps for a prolonged period of time. what you can do is litely dap the water off the caps with a brand new paper towel. this will help reduce the amount of water on the caps.
how old do they get before aborting???

Well either it's too dry in there, or your (crappy) hygrometers don't work and its too wet. It sounds like it's too wet. What are you using for humidity?

i mist 4 times a day, but i havent been the past few days because of the problem im having right now. since i assumed it was too much water, i just stopped misting. the casing is still moist though, so its not like theyre drying up. i have a cup of water with an airstone that is giving a little fae and keeping the humidity around 75-85 (i think lol)
does too much water also make the caps open too soon?
also, when i would mist daily i would fan them and leave the fc open until for a while so that the caps could dry off. it worked awesome for my first flush, but after i harvested it, this one is just pretty bad.

Up your FAE.... i like fanning 6 times a day (every 4hrs) and misting only a couple of those times. Or you could keep your 4 a day and incorporate a fish pump that blows room rH in slowly. Also, if you have poly-fil to let FAE in, throw a fan in the room to create circulation, but dont point it at the FC (it will dry out).
Spend a little money and buy a digital hygro..
you can find em for less than 20$ shipped.
happy trails and GL to ya ~pcub

got the fish tank pump doing it already, plus i work during the day so 4 is the most i can do. also i have polyfil holes, but no fan, maybe ill try that.
the caps only when the shroom is only slightly larger than a pin. any idea why? is that related to the excess of moisture?
also, my wife wont let me spend any more money on my project lol

When misting your only giving the casings a couple of squirts or so right? BTW it not that the caps are opening too some it's more liokely they're just stunted fruits. Couple of other possibilities are temps to high and/or parasitic infestation from improper pasturization of the substrate. You may want to take that airstone out of the water but first I'd get a working hygromter so you can stop guessing and take informed action ASAP. GL

yeah just 2 or 3 squirts from my walmart spray bottle and i fan for a few minutes and occasionally leave the cover off the fc for about 30 minutes. its not any different than the way i treated the casing before and the first flush was just fine.
i havent checked temps, but my house is usually from 74-77 anyways. ill put a thermometer in there and see what its at.
maybe i can bribe my wife into letting me get that hygrometer... hmmmmm

after they pin, theres that period where they double in growth in a few days. well i was getting tiny ones, so i started misting again and they got nice n big. i guess they just need more water when they hit their growth spurt and less water when theyre getting read to grow again... if i loose 2 cases, that sucks, but i got and lc and some wbs ready to go. my fc is full right now since its just a small container.

When my casings get too wet (sometimes I can see standing water!), I just get a fresh paper towel and lay it lightly on top of the casing. Be clean about it! It will soak up the excess water.. problem solved.
Play around with an automated setup with timers. Find something that will give you the environment you want so you don't have to horse around with all the BS!!

just to let everyone know, adding the thin layer of dry verm to the casings fixed the prob. i got healthy pins poking through now.
