What effects have you had on people's lives?

Have you ever made a big impact on someones life? by helping someone just down on their luck? The help of others by sacrificing something you have for another person. Some things we do and say can have great effects on the way the beholder perceives life, so that they use it to motivate them towards change.. Such as helping one deal with an addiction problem once they have the will to try and quit. the effects you have on them; moral support while they battle withdrawal can have a bigger effect than you may have believed.. Perhaps someone you know was kicked out of their house due to financial problems, and you take them in.. it takes awhile, but you eventually succeed in helping them find a job, you let them stay long enough for them to buy a mode of transportation and a a place to live...
There is a great deal we can do for one another, thats what I believe is the essence of existence... Its all about one love.

i dunno that i've done anything extremely noble and selfless to help someone else.. but i generally try to be good to people, especially my friends.
i've been told a few times that i'm an 'inspiration' or something similar.. it's probably the greatest compliment i've ever received... it sort of weirds me out, really.. because, i don't really see what makes me inspirational...

Once, my dog shit on the carpet, and we were out of toilet paper, or paper towels, so I picked it up with a peice of bread.
Then I decided I should just make a dog shit foldover sandwich. I put it on a paper plate with a napkin... nice presentation, and set it on my garbage cans on the street, basking in the light from an overhead streetlamp.
I dont know exactly what became of the shit foldover, but I like to think it had a profound impact on someones life. Hopefully, somewhere out there, there is a guy who has a great story to tell about how he found a shit foldover one day.

Great post!
I feel educating others is one step we can take towards making the world a better place. Human knowledge has the potentional to make a large impact on human actions and sometimes speaking up, even if it's about something small, can have major positive repercussions.

i've tried all my life to help the ones i love, but i always fail.
tonights good deeds were: giving a bum two cigarettes and wishing him well. then i picked up my stranded brother who had his license plate taken by the police over an insurance mix up, and i let him borrow my car for tomorrow so he could take his girlfriend to her oral surgery. also, i made a couple people laugh and smile.
but anything major i try to do for someone never seems to pan out and i can't tell if it's their problem or mine.

Ive introduced a few people to the joys of raving! And i know it's had a wicked effect on their lives, just as it did for me when i was introduced to the scene...
Other than that, i tend to be one of those people in my group of friends who people talk to about their problems or come to me when they have a secret that's killing them, so i like to think that being there for my buds has a positive impact on their lives...
Also, my friend saved my life a few weeks ago when i almost drowned... although the effect he had on my life was obviously enormous (in that i still have it), i dont doubt that the experience has had a dramatic effect on him also, the sort of thing that changed both out lives forever...

I saved a guy from drowning once. I live right on a beach and in spring, in May i think it was 2 years ago, a german tourist went out swiming all alone (very stupid in cold ass norway, recommendet for vikings only) and froze up on sea and couldnt move (dont know the english word), i watched him the entire time and swimmed out to him and got him on land.

i once had some guy write "i hate you" in his blood on this piece of wood and he fell asleep waiting for me outside my girlfriends door.
you can imagine what happened.
this may not be what you meant, but polar feelings of hatred are also a significant means of impacting someone's life.

I believe that the lives we impact the most are never known to us. We influence people in ways that we'll never know, in both good and bad ways. So try to set a good example and treat people well because you never know who you'll be affecting.

I'm the kind of person who people don't realize I'm helping until I'm not there to help anymore. It's sad, I almost want to say people take me for granted, because I'm the person that'll be there for my friends on a moments notice for whatever reason.
I've also had people let me into their houses when I had nothing, so I believe any favors were returned.
I also have talked a LOT of people out of bad trips, calmed them down and helped them relax, I couldn't really say if that had a significant effect on their life or not, but it could have.

I'm sure I've had an effect on someone's life somewhere. I know many have had an effect on me without ever knowing it.

I turned my friend on to the works of McKenna, Leary, Robert Anton Wilson. Showed him how to do a small grow, enough to sustain his curiousty and his girlfriends. He went from being a materialistic asshole who wanted to be a film director into being a relaxed guy who is getting a degree in the park ranger industry.
I'm also one of those people that people just come up to me and tell me their problems. I just helped 3 co-workers get through their nasty breakups with their girlfriends.
One co-worker I'm trying to help get through his recent string of bad luck with women. I think the last one that told him she just wanted to be friends was number six in a row? Five or six. So he's incredibly depressed, but I've helped him analyse his problems and told him that joining me on my next trip might be a good idea. Not a huge dose or anything, but enough to where he might be able to analyze his situaation from a different standpoint.

People tend to tell me their troubles too. I guess I'm a good listener. I also help strangers in little ways when I can, so I guess I've had a generally positive impact on people. At least I hope so.

I was horrible in junior high. Didn't respect my parents, didn't really respect anybody. I certainly negatively affected people's lives during that period of my life.
Nowadays, thanks to many years of expereince (and a psychedelic awakening or two) I've steadily grown more thoughtful and consider myself much kinder these days
And as long as we're sharing our lifesaving stories... I rescued a guy from drowning a couple years ago. I was surfing my local break, very few people were in the water that morning, and I came upon a loose surfboard floating in the ocean. It struck me as a bad sign and I paddled over to see what was up. I pulled on the leash, and felt a sickening weight at the other end of the cord. Then a head and a pair of shoulders surfaced. All I saw was a patch of dark brown hair and wet neoprene.
I tilted his head back enough to get his face out of the ocean, and he took in a huge breath. He was semi-conscious, breathing deep and moaning, but completely paralyzed. Can you imagine that kind of experience? Paralyzed, under water, about to die!
I yelled for help to a nearby surfer, and the two of us swam, and then walked him to the shore, where a lifeguard spotted us and helped us get him onto the sand. Paramedics came eventually. He woke up pretty soon and just went "fuck, i can't move. fuck!" like that over and over. He seemed SHOCKED to find himself in this condition. He probably surfed 5 days a week all his life, and there he was paralyzed on the sand with a bunch of paramedics cutting off his wetsuit and getting him braced.
I visited him in the hospital a bunch... he broke two vertabre in his upper back and the swelling had caused the paralysis. He was bedridden for a long time, and in full time physical therapy for longer. But a year later, he had a party at his house in honor of the event, and he was up and walking
