Casings: Few large or many small
    #5372599 - 03/06/06 10:07 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

My friend has some spawn and he wants me to tell him what to do with them. I am pretty sure he wants to spawn to straw, but before I tell him what he should do is there a difference (yeild wise) in making several smaller spawns or one or 2 large ones? I know larger ones will produce larger mushrooms but will the weight be the same? We know that larger spawns usually have a higher risk for contams.

When calculating surface area, assuming the depth is a constant, it matters not if you use 10 pans or one, the surface area will always be the same.

Well I think many small would be more hassle then a few larger ones.

But if the cases were isolated and there was a problem then it would be a smaller loss.

Other then that I would look at convenience.
