This one is a new / old stock PAPST fan for some big ass computer cooling application. It is amazingly high quality & so quite, if the air wasn't moving, you would not know it was running.

That's a nice one alright. I just finished rigging up a 12v 'raft pump' to a makita trigger/speed control assembly. I need to post pics of my 'agar clone' FC one of these days.

SQL cage fans will produce positive pressure & maintain it.
Fan PVC piped to plastic 5 gallon bucket of water with a fogger in it, PVC piped to fruiting chamber.
Air flow is actually piped in slightly below the water level, bubbles, then exhausts into another pipe leading into the fruiting chamber. If higher Rh is desired, fogger kicks on & fog also gets piped along.
At least, that is the plan. It is a work in progress, Object is to do away with coolmist.

Here's a good source for cheap fans, dc wall adapters, even magnets for that homemade stir plate. $7 shipping and no minimum. I'm not shilling for these guys, I'm just too cheap to buy at Radio Shack, Newark, Mouser, DigiKey, etc.

Mogur, you're awesome. I've been looking for a good magnet for a stir plate. Friggin nice find.
That $7 minimum shipping is rather annoying though. 3 bucks for the magnet, 7 to get it to me.

And also, agar. I think it would be rather hard to pipe in the airflow to below the water (especially keeping the water level constant). For one, it would cause very loud large bubbles if not done correctly and two, thats some serious backpressure for the fan, no? I love the idea, I just hope it works.

yeah i didnt really think of that since he said below the water level. i guees it was just how he worded it, and how i read it. i was thinking you were gonna need like a humongus check valve or somthing. then i thought of plastic tubing to put the fan above water level. but that way looks better.
i would think that the fogger would need to be on most of the time. do you think that the fan bubbling the water alone is going to allow the FC to maintain humidity, or put drier air into the FC?
keeping the fan at the lowest possible speed would work good i think. does your fan have a variable speed, i guess you could buy something to regulate to power it receives.

I am working on the thing, now.
Fan blew a little to much air for a 24 cubic ft freezer.
So, I added a variable speed control, so it is adjustable cfm.
Fan inlet pipe into the bucket (pointing downward)& actually entered the water.
BUT, the sumbitch made BUBBLING sounds like Niagara falls.
So, I pulled the lid off, to cut the PVC pipe shorter.
Then, it struck me. Don't cut it shorter.
Drill a lot of HOLES in it, from the top down.
That way, air is blown down the pipe, hits the water, then vents out the holes ABOVE the buckets water level & out the exhaust pipe, into the fruiting chamber. That resolved the bubbling noise.
Just running that way, without the fogger on. It does produce a mist effect sort of like a coomist.
Without the fogger on, this sumbitch is killer.
With the fogger on, it is super killer.

DAMN! Good idea agar. That's awesome. I've been planning to do one of these set ups myself. That idea with putting holes in the PVC is really gonna help.
I was thinking about putting a smaller piece of pipe inside the larger one and having the bottom connected to Styrofoam or something so it would float just at the water's level lol
SAY, What do you have in mind for a timer on that fogger
After looking around I think I might try my hand at making one of deeze, http://www.dmgaming.com/timer/x10-tech.htm

On a more related note, agar, how durable are those little squirrel fans? Meaning, would they handle the continual stress of being on 24/7?

AWESOME! Good job. I knew those bubbles would be loud. Good idea drilling holes. Don't you love creating shit?
Anyway, I gotta ask, why not just use the mister in there instead of having to bubble the water? Humidity is humidity, no?

He would use the fogger on timed intervals because it billows out mass amounts of fog. It's basically like having a coolmist and ultrasonic working in conjunction, but in one homemade setup.

Well for one, modified coolmists and ultrasonics seem to be prone to breaking down. There's also the benefit of it harboring a much larger reservoir of water, meaning you need to change it less often, along with the fact that it is able to humidify a much larger growing area than a standard coolmist/ultrasonic setup, if necessary.
:EDIT: plus, who doesn't love DIY projects?

doh! sorry, you misunderstood....my fault completely...im drunk
the "ultrasonic" I was refering to is the same exact technology as the mister. They work exactly the same with minor modification...
No doubt at all, this is THE best idea I have seen. AWESOME stuff here. And if I ever build a martha/fridge, I will use the bucket/mister thing agar is. BUT, how important is the bubbbler effect? Bubbles a) make a bit more noise, and if you have seen my posts, I am the stealthiest fucker around. and b) put more pressure on the fan, thus shortening it's life span (don't know how MUCH, but still)....
But anyway, I do have to give you a hand agar.

Ohhhh I gotcha. Well when the fogger isn't on, the fan is still blowing and acting as the coolmist, offering FAE with just a bit of humidity to keep RH steady.
And agar eliminated the bubbling action by drilling holes all up in the pipe leading from the fan into the reservoir, effectively reducing audible bubbling and back pressure on the fan.
:EDIT: did I swing and miss again?

Thats just what I was thinking. Same reason to use a coolmist! Except without the hastles.
So where did you get the rheostat for the DC fan? I have only seen AC rheostats....do they work both ways?

You can use the controller from a model train set or race track which is basically a rheostat for DC.
Has anyone actually done this bucket tek yet succesfully? I'm finally putting together my stand up freezer FC (All hail Agar).

Your telling me you have a cool mist fogger setup at the bottom of a full 5 gallon bucket? I have made something like you have in the pic but I was forced to use a "fogger buoy" (sp?) I got it from http://www.mainlandmart.com/foggers.html
BTW, this is my new setup. I stoped using the fogger bucket after I made this. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post5842321

yeah, a rheostat is a rheostat, it doesn't care if its AC or DC.
AC generally deals in different voltage levels though, so the rheostat's resistance range might be different on one you find in a DC application (and in many cases will have a log slope rather than a linear one, especially if you try yanking an old one out of an audio device). max power rating is always important too so that you dont burn up the rheostat.
if you got something specific in mind feel free to send a PM, i know my electrons even better than i know my mushrooms.
