Inactive spore syringe?
    #5371976 - 03/06/06 07:01 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I inoculated a dozen 1/2 pint jars following the original PF Tek guide and using 1/2cc in each jar of B+ strain. It has been a month with no results, not even germination.
The only thing I didn't follow in the guide was tamping down the substrate; does anyone know if this is actually a step crucial to germination or even a relatively important step if at all?
Otherwise, I'm assuming that the only other source of fault was that the syringe contained inactive spores. Could this be the case? Is it common at all to recieve a dud spore syringe in the mail? If so, do I go about complaining to the vendor (I purchased from this vendor previous to joining shroomery.org, next time I'll use a preferred vendor), or just grit my teeth and say "oh well"?

Yeah if it wasn't from a preferred vendor you may be SOL.

As for the 'tampering down' if you are referring to matting it down to solidify the substrate. I was told that leaving it as loose as possible is best.

Thanks all, one more question though.

I don't know what caused the last spore syringe to be faulty, or if it was the spore syringe at all. Can I just go ahead and inject more spores into the jars? Or should I re-sterilize them? Or should I just toss all 12 of them and start over?

I would toss them and start fresh. I dont know if the tek you read stressed sterility, but you NEED TO BE STERILE! Imagine yourself trying to do everything in a lab environment. You can find out if your spores are bunk if you try this tek. Also, you'll be able to turn your 1 syringe into about 5 or so easily. Club99 s Honeywater Mycelium Tek

another reason to start new is because you will never know if it was the syringe or the media you were trying to inoculate.
