Shrooms in 9 days??
    #5369915 - 03/06/06 05:59 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I got a deadline to meet. I have 2 jars that have been colonizing for about 3 weeks, they're halfway done cause I had no incubator but 75F indoors; they are now incubated. I don't have 2 more weeks to wait for a 100% colonization. What can I do? Can I pastuerize the cow manure straight out of the bag? How long does it take for about 2 pints of poo to 100% colonization from BRF spawn? Does the BRF spawn really have to be 100% in order to crumble into poo?? I only got 9 days...starting now

SADLY, I would suggest you start over, when you have more time.

I'd say you're probably not gonna make it. You could possibly use just use the grain that has been fully colonised. Uncolonised grain will contam FAST on poo.
I don't think poo will colonise fast enough to produce shrooms in nine days. I think you'd struggle to produce shrooms if you spawned right this minute! I can't say i'm speaking from experience exactly, but I have read a lot of teks, and my gut tells me this is a no go.

I just read some post that gave me an idea of quick and speedy colonization. I mean, 2 pints of poo isn't that much is it?? My gut tells me the same thing, it can't be done but I was kinda hopin there was a way. What about this, I cut out the colonized portion of the cake, place it on soaked perlite, and apply jiffy mix casing on top??? I also got coir. Either that or give it to a more unexperienced friend.

You're out of time already. Just leave them in the jars and expose to light. When you get more time, chances are you'll have a nice little invitro crop to enjoy.

Ok, so how many days from the 15th should I expose to light and cold shock?? Each jar I have is about half colonized. Once I see pins growin, keep in light for 2-3 days, then pop and fresh?? sounds like a plan

For invitro you just let them colonize completly and then expose to light... and then wait (perhaps another week or 2, but could easily be more). When there are shrooms in the jars get them out

are the yields for invitro much lower per jar than regular growing?

I'm still confused about invitro. At first I was talking about letting the colonized portion of a half colonized jar pin so I can remove the whole thing and just cut out the good stuff. Either way, the chances of contamination is very high if not careful enough. But now I just have to wait. Hopefully, my jars will colonize 100% in a few days so that I can induce pinning 4 days prior to my deadline. But I really feel my jars will not 100% in 5 days. Anyone have any good tips on fruiting a 70% colonized cake??

no matter what you do you probably wont make your deadline. If you try to fruit your cakes that aren't 100% you'll probably get contamed its not worth it... besides even if they don't contam 9 days is cutting it very close. So as an alternative there were ppl that suggested if you can't tend to them after that date to just let them sit and do invitro, since this will give you shrooms without you having to do much for it... understand?

oh, ok, I got it now. How long can a jar last after 100% colonization?? I'll be gone till the end of the month.

that shouldn't be a problem... I'd leave the jars in the incubator until you leave. Then take them out before you go and put them on a shelf where they get indirect sunlight... by the time you get back you should have shrooms growing inside the jars which you can harvest when they're ready

Those who cannot cultivate patience won't ever successfully cultivate shrooms. 9 days is not enough, leave the jars to fully colonize then work with them upon your return.

Patience.

Best results from invitro come from exposing to light from the day you inoculate. I'd remove from the incubator and simply put on a shelf where they get normal room lighting. When fully colonized, you can open the lid and dump out the vermiculite barrier to give the developing fruits more room to grow. Many invitro growers also turn the jar upside down at that time.

I don't think it's so much a problem of patience, but a problem of a tight schedule.

yeah I'm guessing by now your finding out that just because the jars are 100% then it can still take a very good while to see fruiting bodies. i hope your deadline is a recreational one and not a finical one because there is no way your going to be on time.
