Removing a stain from Isopropyl?
    #5369424 - 03/06/06 12:44 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

This has little to do with actual cultivation but, since rubbing alcohol is used so much in the process, maybe one of you will have an answer for me.

I use isopropyl to clean a lot of things and spilled some on my stone-tile floor. I thought nothing of it as I use it on just about everything and it evaporates away in a few minutes.

Well, I came home from work and there are these grey-ish white spots on the floor. As if it'd been bleached. Anyone else encountered this before and know how to get rid of it? It looks awful. Google isn't helping too much...

Any help would be appreciated.

Try buffing it with some high quality paste furniture wax. More that likely it removed built-up surface oils and left the 'clean' marks.

Try to keep the wax in the bleached areas or you may have a bigger problem.

Also, tell me how you get the stain out, I've had alcohol stain problems too.

If I find a solution, I'll let you know.

From what I've google'd, it requires a poultice of some kind...

But all the search results that give definitive answers are for using Iso to remove ink stains and such... blah.

The alcohol is likely NOT staining (as in leaving something behind) It's more likely to be stripping something away (either through evaporation or simply displacing a finish). I imagine on the stone floor the marks will fade in time.

For wood related problems, one uses a proper colored Old English wood restoration product.
