can my casings be saved?
    #536814 - 01/31/02 10:58 AM (23 years, 3 months ago)

I have 2 casing that are tottally fucked! they are matted really bad, all the mycilium toplayer is dead. I gave it the moisture it needed and it stil got matted. they have pulled away from the sides really bad too. the casings are now hard to the touch and i can see that the mycilium is turning blue. Boy did I fuck up!! Honestly they look really bad. i broke of a chunk and learned the inside of the casing is still healthy. I got pinning but they either died or grew 1in and the veil broke. a total of 4 one inch shrooms, fuckin tiny. what can I do to save them? they are cased with verm, so can i crumble them up again and make a big cake or should I crumbe it up and recase? will the mycilium recover well through out all this verm(top and bottom layer)? the underside and middle of the casings looks nice and white though. I mean will the mycilium stil colonate this amount of vermiculite? what should i do?

let me be more detailed.
cut off all your casing layers (all the top and bottom (if you used a bottom) verm) then crumble your substrate again and recase.

I wouldn't case with just vermiculite again. You'd be much better off with 50/50+, or better yet, any popular coco coir casing recipe
