Getting Started, just a few small questions

Soon I will be starting my first batch of mushrooms and I had a few questions that may end up being too opinionated, but here it goes:
1: In the many guides to growing mushrooms I've read, the two largly used methods of cultivation is transfering the rice cakes from the jars directly to the terrarium, one being made of a styrofoam cooler with a wire meshed bottom. And the second way is to scrape all of the myco from a jar, break it up and scatter it on a soil based terrarium.
What process is more effective?
Also; 2: Can someone recomend where I can purchase Psilocybe Cubensis of the Amazonian strand; already in a syringe. I don't want to mess with prints just yet.
From there I think I have it under control, I'll begin the process as soon as my spores arrive
Thanks in advance for any help. (Also accepting any veteran tips )

I think you are referring to cakes vs casing.
Cakes being birthed in the shape of the jar, casing being the crumble to a substrate type of thing.
Casing is a little tougher, but more productive.
Cakes are easier, but produce much less (or can)

Just find the Magic Mushroom Growers Guide and follow it exactly, its easy and you can get a shitload of mushrooms. Perfect for a beginner.
Go to the search at the top and type VENDORS.

Just order from any of these vendors that carry syringes and you will not get ripped off.

From what I understand: The first tek you are talking about is generally called a 'cake' tek. Second one is referred to as 'bulk substrate'. The cake tek requires less work, but many cultivators say produces poorer results. The bulk substrate teks require more work(a matter of paradyme) and produce the better results. You should probably read more on those as 'scattering' the myc 'on top of' the substrate is not a recommended tek. What is recommneded is mixing it into the substrate and then 'casing' it. Which is a protective layer that also helps provide moisture to the myc.
As for syringes, check the vendors part of this site. I have ordered from Ralphsters and was impressed by the speed of service, the quality(visually) of the syringes(yes its impossible to tell vitality by looking, but they looked good to me compaired to other 'brand' syringes), and the security of the ordering proccess.
Here is your link: http://www.ralphstersspores.com/

Ok awesome thanks for the help..I recently started experimenting with mushrooms so I figure I might as well eat my own fruit :-D
Uh..yeah I was just worried about getting ripped off, but if you all use those vendors then I see no reason not to trust it.
Thanks again and wish me luck, look for my logs here soon, they'll be full of pictures and plenty of mistakes I bet..haha
***edit*** just a quick question, I heard that adding a little honey to your cake mix is a good way to yield a whopping 25 % increase to mushroom production, anyone vouge for that?

honey is used in making LC
i have never heard of it being used in any tek for making a cake i believe it would just mess up the moisture content and would also carmelize when PC'd
maybe someone can pull out a Mycology Mythbuster thread where we test the myths everyone talks about when it comes to growin shrooms.. just like that one mythbusters show on discovery channel

That is an excellent idea. There is a section for Questionable Techniques, but this sounds like a different animal.

LC ? Sorry I'm not up with all of the abbrieviations quite yet. Heh
And also, I found the Magic Mushroom Growers Guide through Erowid and for their terrarium they used a styrofoam cooler, I had one question about that, they say place the rice cakes on a wire layer at the bottom of the cooler.
Spicey Tuna Roll Suggested this guide to me, but I was wanting to make sure its the correct guide, ( http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_mmgg.shtml)
The only reason I ask is because he said that method would produce a "shitload" but in the previous post someone said that cakes produce less usually.

If you get 12 jars successfully colonized and you don't fuck up after birthing them, you will have MORE than enough mushrooms man. And that is the first tek that I ever used when I grew.
Oh but yeah, cakes won't put out as much compared to spawning to bulk but 12 1/2 pints will be enough and easy.

LC = Liquid Culture. A way of germinating and multiplying mycelium in a liquid nutrient mixture.

I like this version of the PF tek http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/23593
I suggest using perlite humidification in your FC (fruiting chamber)
