Squeezing cake during dunking

Hey i just harvested a small enough bulk cake and the substrate shrunk like normal and is about 60% of the size it was when it begun ... I didnt have a big casing layer... anyway when dunking i was thinking that if i could put more pressure on it then it would absorb more water and do it alot faster
Lets exagerate if i had a 6 foot tube of water and pushed it all the way to the bottom and held it there then it would be under more pressure and soak more .. then i said feck that and just put it under water and VERY gently squeezed it and pulled on it around the sides and ALOT of bubbles came up which means alot of water went in, squeezed it about 10 times and then put it back in the container it was in during fruiting and it was after growing about 20-30% in a minute .... this might be a good idea for people who are stuck and dont have time to dunk ...
im sure contams from your hands would be cut down if you wear gloves and put a small bit of h202 in the water 1% , and it might take a day or two to recover if you broke some of the network of mycelium by mistake but what do youse think?

Like i got a good flush out of it and have plenty other cakes so i just done this as an experiment .... alot of air bubbles came out and it did expand by 20-30% and that wasnt just me breaking it up cause it was very gently squeezing, if it doesnt contam or doesnt take 2-3 days extra for it to recover then id consider doing it if i was in a rush and didnt have 12-24 hours to soak

There is nothing wrong with experimenting, you said you have many cakes, just be sure to mark the ones you do that too. That way it wasn't just a waste of time.....

I have to disagree. Not about the damage to the mycelium, which would happen (depending on the severity of the squeeze), But to the fact that it wouldn't suck up any more water. That is exactly what is happening. As the bubbles escape, water takes their place. The only thing i might worry about is pockets of water inside the cake causing places to oversaturate if the water isn't absorbed. But i think it is something worth investigating.

Theres alot of times that id only get to work with the mushrooms at night time ... id have to do any transferes and inoculations and pc and picking and dunking at night and wouldnt have time in the morning or might not have time the next night to do anything to them.
Well i know it definitly soaked up water cause i measured the volume of water.... and i know that i was damaging it but it didnt take much pressure at all, if you have a spent cake that your not going to flush again just give it a shot and ull realise it doesnt take any pressure really and then ull know how much damage your doing i think if i was in a rush the damage would totaly be worth the 12-24 hours
Then again tomorrow the cake could be bruised all over and if it is ill keep everyone updated, and when the cakes fully spent ill cut it open to see is there internal bruising or even if there is cavitys created which would be very bad.

to me.. it seems like the risks outweigh the benefits.. and as a poker player, i'd fold
cant go wrong with good old dunk and roll, better odds
