Pressure Cooker NOISE

Due to the circumstances it would reduce a lot of worry if there was a way to muffle or silence the noise that comes from the steam leaving the pressure cooker.
does anyone know of a silencer device or a company that makes silent pressure cookers? i know its an odd request, but hopefully someone will know of a solution

wrap a small towel around the release valve- make sure it doesn't touch the stove but it is just steam, it wonk ignite anything

Do not modify the working of a pressure cooker. You will just hurt yourself or someone else.

It isnt a modification- its putting a towel or wash cloth around the escaping steam just enough to reduce the hissing, the pressure still is released it just isnt loud

If you have the style of PC that uses a weight on top of a steam vent to control pressure then putting a towel near that is just asking for trouble. It will interfere with the pressure regulation and could lead to excess pressure. If you have a style where its regulated inside of a housing of some sort then it is possible that it wouldnt be too dangerous to place a towel 'around' the steam vent. Just make sure you do not obstruct any valves, safety devices, or steam.

that is the same type i use, when i put the wash cloth around it- it comes just barely to the top control valve, there is no added weight to the valve, plus the safety vlave would go before the whole thing exploded, but like you said, its better safe that sorry and it wouldnt be that hard to mess it up

Turn the stove down so the steam barely escapes, once pressure is reached. RR

When using the PC's that have the three psi setting weights you will want it to giggle 4 times a minute thats where you adjust your heat to. Any more (6+) and your actually lowering the pressure and increasing the chances of running the PC dry from excessive moisture loss. Any less and again your not reaching the desired psi. So siliencing is really out of the question, you can always turn the stereo up or mask it in some other way. Now If ya bought an AA PC then it would be silient.

aside from this idiotic reply:

thanks for all the replies so far. maybe i should have described the situation better. the only stove in use is one of those ceramic-top ones with no flame. the base of the PC is bigger than the burner on the stove so an outside grill is being used. its wintertime so people arent walking around that much but in the summertime people will be able to hear it at night if they are walking by trying to come up with a viable solution in the meantime...

Lots of people run pressure cookers in the summertime. They're all simply canning peaches and making jam. Why would the neighbors think anything different? RR

Time the pressure releases and cough at the same time hahahaha get a massive carboard box or even better polistirine (cant spell it) box and put it over but make sure theres about 1-2 inch gap at the bottom to allow heat to escape, put it in a shed ... anything at all like that will bring the noise down ... and if i wasnt a myco head and was walking by and heard a PC going off i wouldnt have a notion what was going on and if i had to guess id say the noise was from someone brewing there own beer.
People who would be the type to call the police normally dont know whats involved in growing mushrooms, a PC is the last thing ud think ud need haha

Lol- leave it to the growers to be paranoid about people hearing the pressure cooker. Many people use them for canning and preserving food. We just take advantage of its ability to sterilize so we can selectively break food down with the organisms (mushrooms) we choose. Even still...there is nothing illegal about pressure cooking grains, its what you decide to inject into them when it is the issue....(for people in the states anyway)
