colonizing temps for monotubs?

Ahoy mono/double tub users. Quick question for ya.
A good pinset comes from a drop in temperature, correct?
So, while colonizing my poo in my monotub, how should I keep it warm? (Above room temps of ~72 at optimal colonizing.)
Right now, I have a black bag over, but what about heat? Heating pad? TiT?
Or does it even NEED to be warmer?
Thanks!

Being in a monotub doesn't change the temperature requirements.
Incubation mid eighties. Fruiting mid seventies.
Some say you can 'cold shock' the mycelium into fruiting by dropping the temp to around 70 before bringing it back up to 75.
Read the cultivation FAQs. It will answer the questions you haven't even asked yet.

Actually that is wrong. Colonizing at the same temps as spawn is bad news. That can ferment your poo and you don't want that. They say just let it colonize at room temp. That is why you can't let any light in because any light what so ever will initiate pinning. That is how I screwed up the first time around. I had to peak at it and you shouldn't. I got a horrible pinset. But this time around it will be different. Goodluck on your monotub!

Haha, its funny the new guy told me to read the faqs. LOL. Ok sorry...I'm done. I'm not making fun, and I appreciate the reply!
I remember reading to just colonize at room temps, but still...I still would like to know why its this time and only this time that it's cool to colonize this way....ya know? Seems like an exception to the rule but just because of lazyiness.
EDIT: Kirk: And you still get a good pinset although your colonizing and fruiting temps are the same?

Bulk substrates produce more internal heat than a colonizing jar. I don't recommend letting the ambient exceed 80F with bulks. Room temp is just fine. It's what I use. RR

My bad, I thought you were going from jars->bulk substrate in a tub.
I misunderstood your monotub usage. Sorry.
On that note, what is the point of doing the monotub teks? Reduce the amount of steps involved? Less equipment to purchase?

To me, it seems the easiest and also not as "out in the open" as a martha.
Basically, "you set it and forget it" because you don't have to open it and fan,etc etc for air exchange. And because of the depth and surface area, it has a good pinset.

Yeah monotubs are the shiznit if you can get your technique down. All you have to do is throw your shit in the tub. Let is sit for a while. Then throw your casing on. Let sit a little bit longer then give it light and forget about it. No messing around with shit to get the humidity right or anything. Just let it sit. Then in a few weeks you check and there are some shroomies in there. I love it. I would like a martha to work on my casing technique because I don't get to practice that much when doing monotubs.

Interesting, thanks for the replies. I'm using a dead freezer and automation. It's somewhat stealthy but the automation is tricky to figure out. I'm incubating more jars than I can use in there so maybe I'll give something like this a try.

ya you want to colonize your poo at the 75 range.. my first poo i spawned at 85, it worked but it took forever and was a horible pinset.
