Constant Air Exchange in a Terrarium Question
    #5364945 - 03/04/06 03:27 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

After enjoying this website for almost a year, I have decided to get an account for the forums and even grow my own. But now I have a few questions.

I'm building a terrarium that is two 20gal+ tupperware containers. I'm running 5/8" tubing through both of them connected to a heat pump to regulate temperature. I have two 80mm LED computer fans that, if possible, I would like to run the air into my terrariums. I would use a modified HEPA filter to filter the air before entering the terrarium.

The theory is there would be less contamination risk by having the fan run, then opening the tops to manually fan. Also, the LEDS would be just enough light for the shrooms. What are your thoughts on this idea?

Thanks,
Drowse

that would be fine- causing a positive pressure to keep airborne contams out, however with a constant air supply, you might find that you are having trouble keeping the humidity from dropping, unless you have a plan for that too

Was thinking of poking small holes in the tubing running through the terrarium and just adding water into the reservoir.

Thanks for the reply.

Be careful, I have heard that too much air blowing directly to the mushrooms could cause nasty tares in your mushrooms. Makes them look deformed.

There will be about a foot between the fan and the casing. The fan probably only does about 20cfm.
