Wiping RAID HD clean....

I do have some free software that wipes a HD clean, but none of them are specified for RAID capabilities...Can anyone recommend any free software or maybe even just software in general?

A program called WIPE. It doesn't just reformat the drive, it writes zeros to the whole disk. Impossible to recover data. I'm told it had been used by the military in the past to protect sensitive data.
Format a floppy disk as a boot disk, and put the WIPE file onto it. boot with the disk, use DOS to open up the WIPE file from the floppy, and it renders everything that used to be on the drive completely unrecoverable. After it's done, you format the disk to render it functional again.
I'd give you the file, but I can't find my darn floppy disk.

You might wanna try this: http://dban.sourceforge.net Haven't tried it my self though, and it might not work with RAID. Otherwise store your sensitive data on 1 partition and secure erase it from within the operating system if necessary. There should be plenty of applications that have the ability to do that. If you chose this method, I fail to see how it matters whether the hard drive is in a RAID setup or not. As far as I have read, you can't be 100% sure that all your data is gone forever, even if you "zeroed" the drive. The only solution appears to be physically destroying the drive.

Why don't you just wipe the drive manually?

It doesn't matter. If you are really paranoid, wipe the logical raid drive, then break the raid and wipe each physical individually.

Yea i could have done this if i wanted too, but it would take too much time and i didnt want to go through with this.
and it wasnt for paranoia....lol it was for my job. i was trying to find software to wipe all scsi devices on of our servers. it seems when i post here....i 50% of the time can get a faster and better response on a low end technical issue then on a tech forum.
go figure lol.

once the logical drive is fucked, recovering data becomes less possible. If your paranoid use a program to write zero's to all the drives within the raid.
