I cased 2 cakes (BRF) of PES Hawaiian from PF using the "Casing for Dummies Tek" from the Forest Floor. It was my first casing. About 30% of them broke through very weird looking. By weird, I mean they were coming up as half mushrooms, even ones not growing against the edge of the container. Sorry no pics, don't have a camera. They looked like a normal shroom that had been squashed against something hard. They also had huge fuzzy clumps of mycellium around their bases. Does anyone know the cause of this?

Did you see any exposed gills on the half side of the cap? I've heard fungicide in your substrate or casing can cause strange mutations.

There were exposed gills on the half-caps. I used straight verm for the casing layers and the substrate was just BRF and verm (MMGG). I am almost sure there was no pinning before I crumbled the cakes. I looked at them pretty closely before crumbling.
