Horse Poo alternative?

Sweet. My friend owns a farm with no horses, but chickens and cows. He said that i could have all thie shit I wanted. I heard that because cows have 4 stomachs that it is not the greatest poo in the world. I was thinking I might be able to mix it with some chicken poo for more nutrients. Is that viable? Also, the poo is pre-mixed with straw. It's been sitting in a barn all winter, so I don't know if that classifies as leeching. Does it? And finally, he also said I could use all the straw I want, so should I skip the cow poo or chicken/cow poo(pre-mixed with straw) and just use only straw? Thanks for the help and I swear this is the last time I'll ask about poo or straw. haha

from what i gather, cow shit works pretty well mixed with straw, not as good as hpoo, but whatever, use whatcha got right. chicken poo is generally not used, except for very small amounts in some compost. Ive never had a straw grow not contam. none of my poo ones have. some people have luck with straw though. Id just use the cow poo straw mix and see

I would say cow poo/straw would be ideal. Like he said not as good as Hpoo from what I here but second best I think. So make a 50/50 straw/Cpoo.

But with Cpoo available also why use straw on its own..? Im sure Cpoo has nutritients the mushrooms will love. The straw will just give the Cpoo a better texture from what ive read, but the Cpoo carries the nutrients. Free Cow shit, free straw, might as well take em both and mixem up.

Just randomly throw in a little bit of each? And I did read about adding bloodmeal and worm casings. Where do I find these and how much would I use if I was going to be doing a 66 quart double tub? (My spawn is WBS)

And, chicken manure as long as it's been aged in the sun and totally dry. Use no more than 5%, which is one cup of chicken manure for each twenty cups of cow or other ingredient. You'll see some monsters. No more than a tablespoon or two of blood meal for a full bin of manure/straw. The other ingredients all work fairly well by themselves, so mix in whatever proportion you have available. RR

Well, the chicken poo has been sitting in a coop all winter. Is there a way that I can speed up the ageing and drying? I live in michigan and it still is the middle of winter

LOL@ still in the middle of winter. Where I live, we're ignorant that such a thing as winter even exists. Im moving to North America soon, damn the sunny South, I hardly ever even go to the beach anyways.....

because straw colonizes and fruits fast as crap. Its easy to work with. Its easy as hell to get. Straw has more nutes than people think. Id rather just make straw double tubs then mess with poo, but then again I live in an apartment with roomates.

Yea, me too. I also heard that there is a couple different types of straw. Should I get wheat straw, or something else?

a common mistake new growers make is to think they want as much nutrients as possible. This opens the door to contamination, stagnation and slow growth. Nutrients are essential, but it is better if they are conditioned to the selectivity of the mycelium. You want a fast spawn run to take over the substrate. I'd be careful with the chicken maneure. it has alot of nitrogen.
