What are the effects on fruits if your temperature is kept at 68 degrees.

Hello--
I am growing a cubensis strain and was just wondering if anybody knew what the effects would be on my crop if I kept the temperature in my fruiting chamber at about 68 degree F, instead of the recommended 74 degrees? I am growing in a cold apartment, which prevents the air inside the fruiting chamber to get above 68, even with a heating device. Does anybody know if this will drastically effect my fruits? Thanks for any help.

68 degrees... I wouldnt worry about it, you should be fine. IT just may take a tad longer. I rigged up a TiT fruiting chamber to keep mine at 74 because my room stays at a constant 60, which is a little cold IMO.

Agreed, it might be a bit slower, but lots of folks report better quality fruits from lower temperatures. I've seen them fruit outdoors when temps were in the 50's daytime, and much less at night so you'll be ok. RR

I fruit at 68-72 degrees and I get great pinsets and fruits everytime. It will take a little longer for pins tho.

IME 68F takes quite a bit longer than 77F to crop (harvest) this means waiting that much longer for each subsequent flush. FYI it mutiplies and in the end makes quite a difference but you gotta do what ya gotta do right?

I don't mean to hyjack this old thread, but I put my cakes in the FC about 2 weeks ago and still no pins. Temp is 68F, RH is over 90% and I have 2 "sunlight" florescent lights above. When you all say it may take longer for the cakes to pin, about how much longer is normal?

Likely, the fruit gets better with the lower temperatures. At least with yeast and brewing, as your temperature rises past 70F, you end up with a vastly inferior product due to the overstressed yeast putting out all kinds of icky byproducts.
I would be curious to see how quality is for shrooms at, say, 60F. I imagine that the reduced stress on the mycelium would help a lot with contams, and the low temp would help ward off mold and bacteria.

You might try moving the lamps a bit closer so you can get some 'daytime heating' while they're on. If you can get the temp up to 75F or so when the lights are on, the mycelium will be happier. There's other factors at work too, and remember that fresh air, which causes an evaporation of moisture from the substrate is the number one pinning trigger. RR

Thanks for the reply. The light fixture is in the ceiling about 3' or so above the FC so I don't think it's going to give off much heat from up there. I was thinking of adding a lamp from my old gecko's terrarium nearby to throw off some heat. Hopefully that's all that's missing from the fruiting equation!
