A couple nights every few months I have very tough dreams... that are hard to control, and it feels liek the REM sleep is taking over my consiousness.
I will hear music, or throbbing, also with detailed visions in these vivid dreams, with an intense body rush, like my body is being filled with warm buzzing electricity. It honestly feels like I have just done a drug and I dont have any control of whats about to take place. When I have these nights its hard to fall asleep because of the intensity of these dreams, they can be a little spooky, but also I've managed to jsut go with them sometimes (instead of forcing myself to wake up), and experience what the dream has to offer, and that is how I am able to fall asleep on those nights.
I just sort of just surrender to the experience/dream. Its pretty damn trippy and can get really intense.
It's sort of like an induced dream via some drug, except its not, happens on random occasions. Sorta like a dream with a purpose so strong that it will not let u go... Anyeone else have these fucked up and intesnse dream episodes (when a dream takes hold of you, even before you are asleep, and then sometimes your not sure if your asleep or awake?)

ive read dr.straussman's DMT: The Spirit Molecule, and its obvious that joe rogan has too. however, he gets much of the facts wrong. Meletonin is the chemical thats released during sleep, especially during R.E.M. its a great read if you interested in dmt.

Strassman gets melatonin wrong? Or rogan? Strassman studied melatonin for years.
Seems like a confusing chemical. It peaks during certain sleep hours, and can help promote sleep. Seems to have to do with the absense of light? But still, there's no definitive knowledge of what exactly it does, as far as I know.

I did this once, tripped out like nuts hearing music as though it was totally real (songs that I recognised and can name now), synaethesed in lights of varying patterns onto a dark blue tinted backdrop of my room, started out 2D, becoming 3D. The backdrop became animated, like I was floating through the room, only watching it on a kind of screen, the visuals faded and I entered a lucid dream. That was awesome.

Stefan...I think you are misinterpreting rogan on this one. Although, with as eccentric as he comes off in this recording, I can kind of see why.
What he is getting at, though, is that DMT has a substantial role in our dreams, and he's right. You aren't having full-blown DMT trips every single night, but somewhat mini ones. Terence McKenna talked of this as well. This theory isn't unheard of at all and surely isn't bullshit.

Tyrone_C said: Well I just heard an interesting audio clip about Joe Rogan (Fear Factor dude) talking about DMT. You don't HAVE to check out the clip to get this post, but I found it pretty interesting and you might wanna check it out: Joe Rogan DMT Trip
Anyhow, he mentions something about how dreaming is essentially a DMT trip. I already knew that we had DMT in our brains or whatnot, but I was unaware it was the cause of dreams.
This left me to ponder something. Within the past year, starting shortly after surgery (I'm blaming the medication I received as the trigger for this), I've been tripping as I'm falling asleep. And I mean tripping.
It doesn't happen every night, more like 2 nights every 3 weeks to a month. Sometimes it's just one night, but it's common to be 2 nights in a row. I usually can tell when it's going to happen, because as I start to nod off and almost fall asleep, I can feel it coming on, panic, and wake myself up. Then I'm prepared for it and can actually fall into it, but no matter how prepared I am I'm always still in complete confusion once this trip begins. The only thing that doesn't keep me from panicking is that I tell myself I'm on some sort of drug, I guess thats instinct now for panicky and confused situations. I'm also sure it happens right upon falling asleep, as I'm usually in some lost thought when it comes on, usually I have a enough time to think "Here we go!" before I'm blasted into confusion, but thats about it.
What does the trip consist of? Well it's a mixture of a few things. Normal dreaming of coarse. The trip usually starts as a normal dream, that I'm watching from above in the third person. Then onto the second thing it consists of, which is sleep paralysis. From the very start of the dream, I'm very seperated, and still in a concious state. After about 5 seconds of dreaming I realize I'm dreaming, but of coarse cannot move due to sleep paralysis. This is where things start to get really weird.
I've always gotten sleep paralysis, but never with these other strange things with it. Anyhow, then the noises start. Really high pitched noises along with really low pitch screams, loud yelling, the sound of grinding metal. And then I leave my body.
Sometimes I go up, sometimes (usually) I go down, and on rare occasion, I'll go to the side. I'm sure many people here have had out of body experiences before, being a psychedelics forum and all, so you know what it's like. Sometimes I try to fight this feeling, I guess it depends on my mindset before sleep, but sometimes this terrifies me, and sometimes I'm perfectly accepting of it. Either way, it's intense.
This is where the most intense part of the trip begins. I'll start to get CEV's, exactly like those of a good shroom trip, and finally full out images (I'm guessing this is a half-dream state?). Then I usually dream of myself waking up and struggle to move or do something for a while, in a completely delerious state, saying "I smoked too much weed" over and over in my head untill of coarse I completely snap out of it all together and actually wake up.
Now, I know what your thinking, just some crazy dreams right? Well I'm sure I would have thought the same thing, but there's something that really weirds me out. Upon awakinging back to FULL conciousness (in no way shape or form dreaming) I feel buzzed for about 10 seconds. I guess it sort of feels like an alcohol buzz, warm and dizzy. After these 10 seconds I'm completely normal, but if these are just dreams then how could I possibly still be "feeling it" upon waking up?
So I know I've asked what could be causing this before, but upon hearing this audio clip, could it somehow be DMT tripping me out like this. Maybe my brain releases a large amount, and then it needs to regenerate a while before releasing it again? I know that sounds like weird, but it's the most logical explination I can think of. Could some post-surgery medication or antibiotic cause a DMT overload?
I'm not complaining about these trips, I really enjoy them other than the terrifying sounds, but it just worries me that I'm having them, and I'd like to know the cause. I have a good feeling that if I go to a doctor it will be blamed on drug use, but I'd like to add that when this all started, I had only smoked weed and I was an every-other-weekend toker. I'd also like to add that I've never been on drugs when this has happened, I've always been sober. One possible exception to this was one afternoon I crashed after being up for about 48 hours (stupid E) and it occured, I
This reminds me that my balls itch and should be scratched, lol im joking :P what I really mean is we do have some chemical thats also a drug that I faintly remember is DMT but I dont think we experience the DMT "trip", I wish I had some dreams before I woke up all I remember is "nothing" then "something" like an on n off switch, thats how I slept last night.. very depressing and unnatural.

i think you should try to get a grip on how it happens and start to control it. being able to control lucid dreaming is an amazingly rewarding talent. you can do whatever you want all the time as long as your asleep. i would suggest getting some books on meditation and lucid dreaming and learning about it you might be surprised how usefull it could be

Meditation is a key ability for this and you can also use a method to write down some dreams you have during them, but I find it hard to believe you can write neatly while unconscious. This would be benfitial to me since I have a knack to sleep walk every other year and walk with eyes open cursing at people, i'll never forget waking up while standing and being slapped at the same time for calling my grandmother a a bitches slut, now why would I do that I said but she didnt believe me when so she might kick me out next time if it ever happens again, lol man that would be so unbelievably shocking being forced out not even knowing why or where iam at the time.

If anything it's related to breathing patterns. DMT is eventually synthesized in the lungs, iirc.

Look up sleep paralysis. Some people get scary hallucination, others (the minority) get enjoyable 'trips'. I've experienced both good and bad, on the good I was hearing music and seeing patterns and faces and cant move but when it gets bad I saw demons and things coming into my room. You know its not real but it freaks you out cause of how intense it is, and you can feel them touching/hurting you but can't move.

because this is a SIX year old thread.
because your assertion DMT is manufactured in HUMAN lungs is speculative, and because your "information" is more than 6 years too late for the OP.

you wouldn't have to ask if you had a DMT trip. it should be pretty obvious. you're describing hypnogagia. that mindset where you're still half awake, start having ridiculous nonsensical thoughts, seeing visuals, etc.
oh and for all you comparing DMT to dreaming i suggest you smoke DMT first before making that assumption. it's about as alien and un-dreamlike as you can get.

Sounds like very intense episodes of sleep paralysis. The loud noises, like ringing in the ears, but at full voulme, are fairly common with sleep paralysis. It may be that your previous episodes were rather mild.
