Trying this new terrarium *PICS*

My friend wanted a setup that was easier to deal with and less noticeable than a bunch of stacked rubbermaids. He's gonna have 3 casings per shelf. Hopefully this will keep humidity high enough. If not he will add a trays of wet perlite. He also will have 4 fish tank air pumps hooked up. One for each shelf coming in at two locations in the back of the unit. The shelves are solid but have gaps around the edges for the CO2 to fall to the bottom and out a large hole. He will also not be putting casings on the bottom for this reason and also because he figured theres too many contaminates down by the floor for them to survive. This is his first time with a big terrarium so he just wants to make sure that everything works ok. Here's some pics: As you can see, he can fit a bunch of casings in there:
He has 2 tubes coming in on each shelf for fresh air. The pumps will be equipped with some sort of filter soon. Probably Tyvek.
This is the back of the unit showing the fresh air setup. The tubes run down to the floor where they will be hooked into 4 air pumps.
Any feedback would be very cool... Take care, bassplayer74

Awesome ! He'll find what to modify when using it. What about the heat ? A perlite tray may help in order to make sure the humidity is high enough, but it should be fine without it. Depends of the climate of your region and his preferences. Real nice terrarium !

the bottom shelf shouldnt have any more contams than anywhere else, as long as you cleaned it. however, since there is nothing there you might as well put that tray of perlite there. nice setup!

My friend is gonna either run some Christmas lights in there or cut a few small "windows" in the back of the unit and cover with clear tape. He got it at Lowe's for 60 bucks. Its VERY sturdy. No tools required to assemble. It closes very securely and is pretty airtight. And as you can see it holds MANY casings. He really likes it cause when its closed it doesn't look like anything but a simple cabinet. So if he ever has company nobody will think anything of it. It's a lot better than having shelves covered in plastic or a bunch of tubs sittin around.

I am no expert, but I really wouldn't think that the casings are going to be able to supply enough humidity in that size of container.

I hope you're right. It's a lot easier for me to raise humidity by using wet perlite than it is to lower it with more fresh air. I'm pretty confident that I can get it right either way.

xmas lights would be perfect for lighting, and since you have nothing on the the bottom shelf, place a small fishtank in there with a fully submersable fishtank heater and crank it (or as high as it needs to be to get your temps up). this will create passive air flow (convection, even though you may want to add a fan for more active circulation) also adding an air stone to the fishtank/heater will keep contams down, also adding some h2o2 regularly wont hurt either .

yeah dude, they're cheap, easy to get (especially a few weeks ago) easy to replace, use little electricity, very pliable. I wonder if putting them on blinking would have any effect....or chase... peace, ar393
