Look in the ingredients, it will either say horticultural perlite, or vermiculite.
I went to 5 stores today, it was ALL perlite kind, then i found one random bag of vermiculite left over at Lowes and buoght some Peat
Vermiculite is damn near impossible to find in my town...

Let me rephrase that, IT WORKS GREAT! LOL
Seriously though, let me break it down for the noobs so you don't go and get them paranoid about buying the "perlite" Jiffy Mix.

Exhibit A: The evil perlite Jiffy Mix Notice that the perlite is tiny flakes and not the solid rocks that you buy for your FC
Exhibit B: One of the small perlite flakes.

Exhibit C: The same flake has been rubbed between my fingers. It's so soft that it easily crumbles into dust. OK boys and girls, as we can see, this evil perlite will hardly wick the water out of your casing, let alone stay in one piece for very long and I think it will actually help give the casing a more airy texture. SO EVERYTHING WILL BE OK! I'm not saying one is better/worse than another, but don't go to 5 different stores like the dude above just to get the verm mix, it's not neccessary at all. There, I've said my peace

Right, but what hotnutz and I are getting at is that the jiffy mix with the perlite in it will work just FINE.

HippieChick said: While those photos proved the perlite really isn't big enough to wick much moisture , the same can be said about it not being big enough to ABSORB much either .
If it's not wicking much because it's not absorbing much , how can that be Great , lol .
Why would a casing mix that's about 99% peat not absorb water? The remaining perlite (dust) isn't even a factor. Like I stated, I don't believe either one is better or worse, they're just different. Both will still have to be misted regularly and both are pH balanced the same. You will still get a great gourmet meal from either one.
Are we arguing HC? I don't want that
