the images are between 3mo and 3yrs old.

they are working on the rest of the world.

there was a speech at my uni a couple weeks ago by michael fey (a noted national geographic ecologist) and he took the national geographic flyover pics from an airplane trip across africa.

it was pretty amazing.

look at all the pics. there are alot across africa.

Yeah, I just got turned on to this program recently, too. Nothing in my area is visible for some reason. I went looking around in Amsterdam, but the picture for that is bad as well.

I like this program.  The pictures a pretty close, too.  If this is available to the public.  I wonder how close the pictures government agencies can get are?  Kinda scary.  Paranoia aside I use it for finding mountains to climb in my area.

google is working on getting the entire globe up.

here's a visual representation of what google has so far.
http://earth.google.com/data.html

i was angry because they only have half of sydney, australia. i went to look at the opera house and other places i have visited. they only have half of darling harbor. and don't have any of the opera house.

shitty.

i'm sure it'll get better... but think about it, i'm sure other companies are on the way to give google a run for their money.

this is a concern. however, look at the buildings next to the u.s. capital and the rooftops of the whitehouse. nicely blurred out last time i saw.

i only know all this because i used to be gallery coordinator at the science place, a childrens hands on museum in dallas (not now thankfully), and this was one of the things i started doing. it was a month after google earth was instituted and i used the museum's dlp projectors to take kids on a tour around the world to all the places they could possibly recognize (and some they didn't) from above.

actually it enticed more dads than kids.
