High pitched ringing sound

I was wondering if anybody else hear has noticed the high pitch ringing sound which seems to always be there when you try to listen to the silence. The only time I ever really hear it is when I take mind altering substances and realize theres no such thing as silence. Usually I dont notice it but when theres an irratating tune playing in my head and I cut it off I notice theres a high pitch ringing sound in the background. At first its pretty quiet and subtle but the more I think about it the louder it gets. When I try to stop it it only gets louder. Sometimes it gets so loud I feel like my heads going to explode. The only way to make it stop is to forget about it. Its funny because im sober now and I cant hear a thing but when im stoned all I have to do is think about it and it gets louder. Unfortunately it doesnt go both ways, I can make it louder but cant quiet it down so when im messing around with it I usually end up with a headache because I cant get rid of the high pitched sound.
The sound isnt exactly like ringing, it sounds more like wind of energy rushing into my ears but sometimes it gets so loud and irratating it leaves me with a pain in my head.

Yeah, its not there, but it is. It simply fills all space you have. Sometimes, I used to notice this much more when I was younger. But yeah it happens to me too. Very normal, IMO.

Yes, I've had this all my life. I can remember lying in my crib and hearing that sound. I now have to sleep with a fan on at night because in silence the ringing will become deafening, especially if I pay attention to it. Most of the time, I don't notice it, though.
For those of you fortunate enough to not be blessed with tinnitus, the sound is similar to the sound of a flyback transformer on a TV set or a computer monitor, especially if it's going bad.
No one really knows what causes tinnitus, and there are many theories about it. It could be your central nervous system, and some medications can cause/ worsen it. Even aspirin has been cited as a cause. All I know is, I don't remember NOT having it.
Next time you experience this, it's best to mask it with something else until you can forget about it. White noise is good for this if you're not in the mood for music.

I think its like what happens if you go to a club, when you try to sleep later that nice all you hear is the buzz. Its like that, only its all the time because your ears are always hearing something and when it gets quiet they ring a little. I dont know why it gets louder sometimes when you think about it but yeah it does, I have had it get so loud I got really anxious and had to get up and leave the room. Maybe its all in my head but who knows.

The inner ear generates sound, that ringing is actually tiny nerves in your ears vibrating, generating millions of tiny "reference tones" like static on TV.
Dr. Hugo Zuccarelli, while trying to discover how people that are deaf in one ear can form a 3D image of sound in the brain, (tell back from front, up from down) found that the ear works holographically by generating a reference signal(s) and forming an interference pattern w/ the signals coming in, which the brain then forms into an audible hologram. This is done the same way as a 3D visible hologram is formed w/ a split and crossed beam of coherent light.
So when it's quiet and there is no interference, all you hear is that holographic CNS reference tone brain buzz.
Dr. Zuccarelli developed a microphone based on this principle, that will record 3D sound with a single mono microphone.
When heard through a single speaker, his holophonic recordings sound 3D, with sound coming from the left, right, and behind.
Dr. Z will only let Floyd and Peter Gabriel use his Holo-mic, but I have heard one would be simple to build. Getting the reference signal frequencies right would be a bitch, though. I have been trying to get my hands on the patent...

I live in at about 4500 ft above sea level in the shelkirk mountains, Now I did notice after coming here that the permeating sound here was primarily a very low tone, though it has been fluxuating over the last few weeks and is now a higher pitch hmmmm.
Personally I believe it is the constant changes in atmospheric pressure.

I take my blood pressure occasionally while under the influence because I am treating high blood pressure medically, and I want to see how high it has gotten from a baseline of 120/80. Spikes in BP can cause tinnitus and headaches, as well as feelings of tight band around one's forehead. As trippers age, and their medical status changes along with them, it is a good idea to keep abreast of something like this.
On a metaphysical side-note, there is the 'shabda' or 'sabda' : http://en.mimi.hu/yoga/shabda.html

I'm sure everyone gets this, although it may be louder, or worse for some people. I always just assumed it was the sound of silence. Never seems to get that loud for me, and I kind of like it since I live next to a major freeway and there is always constant wind noise. So it's nice to hear complete silence for a change.

Side Note !? There's nothing "to any side" about the sound you are experiencing. You are experiencing "Nadam" the cosmic reverberations of the Big Bang resonating through your organism! This vibration can also be experienced in-audibly, when you tune into the sound it will become quieter and eventually that "feeling" will lead you into Nirvana. When you practice absorbtion into the cosmic vibration you will be practicing "Nada Yoga". Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti Om

Strange question to ask someone here! O.K it's tinnitus you may be right (but somehow I doubt it)... "Many people mistake it for tinnitus, a medical condition of "ringing in the ears" ("Ringing in the ears, Ringing in the ears, we shall come Rejoicing , Ringing in the ears!" sorry.ed). But That is a purely medical problem or defect in the ear itself and bears no relation to Nadam. Most who believe they have something wrong with their hearing, and spend years going from one specialist to another, having all kinds of things done to their ears, are finally told to "try and get along with it" as no amount of medication seems to help. The fact is, the sound is not occuring in the ears at all, but is resounding in the consciousness and can eventually be heard throughout the body (Italics mine .ed)

I seriously doubt what I have is a medical condition seeing as its only when I concentrate on it it gets louder and I can hear it clearly.
Like I said before its not exactly a ringing sound its more like wind rushing into my ears or the sound of electricity or something like that. The reason I think its something paranormal is because its always there its only when you notice it and concentrate on it that you can hear it. In my opinion its the closest thing to pure silence but it isnt silence.

I hear this all the time, but I've had tinnitus (sp?) my whole life so my hearing's pretty bad anyways. It can get really loud and intense sometimes, sometimes making it impossible to hear, and sometimes I'll lose all hearing in one ear for a few seconds except for the ringing. Usually I just ignore it though.

O.K think of it this way, in terms of time and space (and all the concepts these words represent) the Universe is infinite. Whatever caused it's creation is an ongoing process until eventually (as the "Dance of Shiva" dictates) it "collapses back in on itself again". You, the human organism, stand as a tiny spec in a tiny solar-system of a tiny galaxy (if we posit the notion of a distant observer in another such galaxy and another such solar-system). Your entire organism is subject to the continuing effects of the very forces which brought the Universe into being. It is no surprise therefore that the resonances of this event become discernible to us at times when our consciousness is open to receive such vibrations (for that is what they are). it is our cognition and realisation of the existence of these harmonics and wave-forms which allows us to "begin to shape the Chaos" of our own existences.

Doesn't it suck when, for a moment you have the impression that you're not hearing anything, that there's only silence, and then you pay attention to what you're hearing and you realize that the buzz is still there!

Ah! Maybe I'll take back what I said about it not being a "Side Note"!
