How long do dried shrooms retain potency?

I was wondering how long dried shrooms will retain their psilocybin, and if powdering them makes a difference in that time. Thanks!

Depending on how you dry and store them they can last years...

Keep away from heat and light. Store them in the refrigerator if you can and they will last for a LONG time. (not exactly sure how long)

Try a search for "powered mushrooms". I went through a bunch of posts about a year ago and some folks had some pretty cool ways of storing them...powdered in a jar in the freezer and such.
Some even introduced CO2 into the jar before closing to get rid of all the air in the jar before sealing. I would think that that would help since when you powder them you are exposing more surface area for the psilocybin to oxidize into the air.
Be sure to look back in the search engine at least a year or two...

However, when you transcend all this pre-conditioning by returning to the original wisdom of the animal body, then you discover this immense dimension of opportunity. For some people, it is a frightening risk. To me, that's the psychedelic experience." Terence McKenna

Actives oxidize in air. Powdering exposes more surface area, to air.
Best preservation I know, is dry cracker dry.

Vacuum seal in autoclave - or food saver freezer type bags. Store in a clean, cool, dark safe place. As potent, a year later - as the day they were sealed.

Liberty caps placed in a hebarium in London in 1792 were examined for current chemical comparative analysis with species picked in 1976 and were found to be as potent as local shrooms collected in 1976

Can I put some not so dry mushrooms into a alumium can? I mean there dry but they are still flexible and not as stiff as a chip. Would it still be bad if they touch each other?

So that I can store them

My question: Why?
Why the hell do different species store differently? What on earth does it have to do with? The original moisture content? The physical structure of the mushroom? Different chemicals? But shouldn't psilocybin still have standards across the board?
Why do cubes last between 6 months two 2 years fine (depending on technique) but people claim ps. cyans and libs will last a decade, or hundred years easily?
So then, what about baeo's? I assume just that they're mostly psilocin and thats why they lose 80% when dried. But by far the most confusing one of all is:
Azurescens. I've read from various sources (including mjshroomer) that after 4-6 months dried, they lose a large amount of potency? What in the bejesus could explain this? How can one mushroom have its psilocybin destroyed in such a short period of time, while another with the same chemical lasts longer? They're dried. They aren't becoming more or less dried... it just doesn't make sense to me. It sounds completely like a rumor.
Anyone?

Different pghysiology of the mushrooms. SOme outer layers of mycelia int he stems protect the mushrooms. Some caps of certain species hold potency due to the mucous membrane on the cap (sticky pellicles) are protected.
Baeos and COpelandias can lose a lot of potency in drying naturally because of intense oxidation.
OUtside of herbarium deposits, I really doubt that those who pick or grow shrooms are able to keep them for ten years let alone several months. Most would consume them before they would store them for lengthy periods of time.
