hm...
    #5357961 - 03/02/06 03:19 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

i was suggested to this site by a friend of mine, who said i might find some pretty interesting viewpoints. my question is this: can anyone argue the idea that we do not exist, in any form, at all?

this is the first question i have ever come across that i cannot seem to find even the most pathetic, irrational answer for.

i generally hold the belief that the only thing that i can "know" is that i do not know anything. until i can find some kind of answer to my question, it would seem i am left with absolutely no choice but to claim that i "know" i exist. and that feels pretty odd.

i'd love to hear some thoughts on this

me.

You've never been outside of your own perception, and even that cannot be affirmed as "real."

And if you wouldn't exist, if we all really do not exist, what would it make of our discussions and of you question?

semantically, yes!?

we exist, and we do not, as we are 'matter', and the 'empty space' between ..
thus we are also; "not existent; in any/every form, at all"

well, there are those who believe we do not exist in the form that we perceive. perhaps we are the imagination, or the memories, or the dreams of another being. how do we know that we are choosing to sit here at our computers and move our fingers about on the keys and express thoughts that we have? how do we know we are thinking? what if our thoughts are the thoughts of others, and we are merely their means of expression? what is discussion and what makes us think that we control it? but that viewpoint is not really what i am thinking of, it was merely what triggered me to to ask myself why we are so sure that we exist in any form any all. this may see like a stupid question with an obvious answer, but it is becoming increasingly interesting to me. questions of the form of our existence all have answers, though they may or may not be right.
but questions as to our existence in ANY form don't seem to have answers - right OR wrong. again, it's the only question i have ever come across like this. i'm beginning to think there is no answer (surprise!!!), but i've received some amazing feedback from various people i have spoken to.

If there would not be anything around yourself, how could you be able to learn something new ?
Does spiritualiy count as something external, too ?

There is always an answer, but if you are looking for an absolute, then you probably are going to be disappointed.

We exist only in our relation to nonexistance. Nothingness is the necessary backdrop for Existance to be within. Sound emerges from silence and returns to silence. Form must be represented on the canvas of the formless.

We exist because we do not exist.
