When I first started growing I was always worried that I wasn't doing thing perfect as far as care. I learned over the years that there are some basic things to follow to get a tall, bushy, healthy high yielding plant. Don't over care for them.
-after they have out grown their first 4" pot transfer them to a MH light preferably a 400watt.
-use high quality potting soil and a little manure when they get into an 6"+ sized pot. Then there will usually be no need for fertilizing. Remember the plant will unlikely live past the harvest.
-keep the soil moist..not wet and not dry.
-learn how to prune.....it greatly increases your harvest amount. You want a bushy plant not a tall stringy one. thats were a good light comes in.
-after a few months switch to a HPS for the budding stage 12hrs on 12hrs off.
It just seemed that the more I fucked with them the more likely they became unhealthy. I just learned to not worry so much, give them their basic needs and you'll be amazed at how easy it is to produce vibrant healthy plants that will yield a high amount.
Another thing, I ditched the two lighting system and got the 400watt MH Hortilux bulb that offered a well balanced light spectrum. It works so well for the growth stage (blues/greens) and the fruiting stage (yellow/red). I didn't think it would but the yield is the proof.

I hate to bump my own post but it got moved to the bottom of the forum.  Maybe some of you plant guru's can help me out here.

I received some new advice to buy dishes for the pots to help water soak into the roots.  Ill be heading to walmart today to pick up some trays, a fan, some chain, and some PH strips.  I bought a nutrient and PH tester the other day but it requires you to take soil from a few inches down, kinda hard to do in pots that small and i dont want to damage any roots that might be growing.  I did one test and soil had a PH of 6.5.

Other then that the leaves right above the seed leaves are starting to yellow, one plant had them fall off, first node leaves are starting to yellow as well.  Hopefully its a water issue like said person mentioned to me and the dishes will fix it.  Ill also be putting them on a 3-4 day watering/feeding schedule since the pots seem to dry out by then.

I still think growing mushrooms have so far proven to be much easier to grow them cannabis lol Im a nervous wreck over my plants, i feel like i have a sick child in the hospital

Putting a dish under them isn't a bad idea. Now if you have been giving them water to the point it drains out the bottom of the cups (not a bad thing cups are small) but nutes run out with the water. With seedlings give them a 1/4 strenth feeding. Keep the ph at 6.5 and you should be set.

i agree!
at least i think there's much more chance it's over watering then a difficiancy...
either way though you DON'T want to submerge them in standing water!!!
that'll kill'em for sure! like i've mentioned befor, roots need oxygen and cannabis in general likes well drained soil (when transplanting, some growers put some sand and gravel at the bottom of the pot to make better drainage and avoide a soggy soil where roots can literly rot)

hope everything is alright so far... i bet when you transplant them they'll be much more happy!

yes overwatering , i agree too. I use leca rocks in the bottom as well as in the soil for drainage .

Well there's a about an inch of perlite in the bottom of the cup, its not mixed into the soil, just a big chunk that im guessing is helping the roots breathe/drain?  I dont understand how im over watering them, i know this is a noob thing, but my pots are BONE dry when i water.  They also seem to be stretching like a motherfucker, i have the tops of the plants almost touching the lights, is this another sign of overwatering?  I thought stretching occured due to high heat and low light.  My temps in the closet are sitting at 80 F, i need to get it down to 75 i know, i put a fan in there yesterday to help move the air a bit and ill be picking up a blower today or tommorow.

So thats where im at, last time i watered them was on sat, how long do you think i should wait to water again?  From what im gathering its not good to put a tray under the plant to let them sit in the solution for a little bit?  Whats a good method to know when to water (i used the dry/wet weight method but this seems to have failed)?  Whens a good time to transplant, do i need to transplant now?

thanks in advance guys, they're not looking so hot right now, id post more pics but i have to go to class.  Ill get them up tonight.

Appreciate the help, mj noob cultivator out.

Oh yah, the soil is promix? I belive there's not much of a nutrient base in this type of soil(no added nutes anyways)?

Help me diagnose! Here are the most current pics of my sick ones. I took a top view and profile shot of each plant.

Well, i dunno, im up in arms about this. Conflicting advice all around. All of the top down shots were taken without a flash to try and capture the color i see instead of being brightened by the flash. There are two profile shots used with a flash because they were too muddy otherwise.

Today was going to be the day i watered them, im guessing i should hold off, but i really dont know what to do. We're going to head over to the hydro shop to see if we can talk to the guy privately after hours somewhere away from the shop. I dont know, ive come this far and i really dont want to see the grow failed because i wasnt doing something that's relatively easy to do and look after.

Last side note, ive managed to keep the temp in the closet to about 77 degree's, it flucs between that and 75 depending on my AC running. If there's anything else i could/should be doing let me know, ive been spending a lot of times reading through books and Cannabis Cultures crap ass website, but everything im reading is telling me to do things ive been doing.

Thanks guys, hopefully i can get my (hopeful) ladies growing strong and fast. They've been in my closet nearly two weeks and i havent seen much growth at all.

if they were dificiant then you'd notice a diffrance on the new growth...

i think the best you can do for now is hold off on watering them untill they LOOK like they're thirsty and get your setup upgraded as fast as you can!

once they start growing again its just gonna get better not worse!
(although don't expect them to green back up.. what's lost is lost!)
if you gave them a feed that should be enough untill you transplant
and about transplanting it's hard to say. it really depends on the kind of soil that's in there right now becouse it might just be that these pots are actualy too big for seedlings... a big pot holds more water and a small seedling can't useup that water fast enough and the roots might starve for exygen. in that case transplanting now would only make things worse since there's still little root system to handle a larger pot, even though that might mean more nutriants...

this is probably even more confusing to you... sorry...
like i said befor all you have to do now is give these plants better lights and climet and it'll sort it self out!
after they grow some more you transplant them to some rich medium and from there it should be smooth sailing...

don't be too worried about it... in general they look fine (granted not the BEST looking cannabis seedlings i ever seen but belive me far far from the worst!) the worst that can happen is you decide they're not worth putting into flowering stage and you just take cuttings from the best looking mothers and start over (with proper setup this time around) seeds are over rated anyway... clones are less hassle!

So whats the best way to see when they're thirsty? Any one have a pic so i can see instead of read about it (pictures are worth more to me then words, this is why im really really missing OG right now)

Stick a pen or similar object all the way thru the soil to the base of the pot, if any soil sticks when you pull it out, you don't need to water.

Alternatley, you can get your self a moisture meter for less than $10 which will give you a much better idea of moisture content at the bottom half of the pots.

small update.

Two plants bit the dust, i really think i need to transplant because the roots on the plants that had died had started growing into the peat pot.

Am i wrong in thinking this, they're growing pretty slowly, maybe moving up to a 1/2 gallon pot might help. Im getting pretty desperate here, everything is going south fast.

the root system grows very fast, its one of the most fast growing plant i have, and so is the plant but in order for the plant to grow tall it need rootspace, the larger space you have for root the bigger plant you will get. I looked at the date on the first post here and by now i would have had the plant in 2.5 gallon pot. and the plant will grow tall thereafter and later i move them to a 8 gallon pot and this is why yours is growing slow. when the root doesnt get rootspace it stalls.

I built my own hydroponics room for about $400. All you need is, a reservoir, water pump, 600w+ hps lamp, tubing, drippers, timers, garden plastic, milar (if you can find it), pots, coco (desicated coconut husk)
and thats about it.
Check out this grow guide,
http://www.nirvana-shop.com/info_growing_guide.php
It's best fool proof guide to growing i've found so far.
If you need any more help with hydro set up etc message me.

I take it that you guy's don't have grow shops in the US?
Here in UK every large town and city has at least 1 shop selling hydroponics, weed seeds and other growing stuff.
But every thing you need can be found,
the link i posted has lots of tips for people who don't have the facilities us European people have.

I had asked earlier in the thread if i should transplant and the answer was no. this was a suspicion of mine because when i picked the seedlings up the guy who kept em for me told me how fast the roots grew.

So i should transplant to a 2.5 gal pot? Ill head out tommorow and pick em up.

If you're doing hydro with inert substance (coco, clay pepples) u can get away with 1.5 gallon pots.
With these mediums you can get away with up to 8 1 minute waterings a day and get really fast growth. Have 1-2 'dry days' a week with no water, encourages roots to spread to find water.
