I have financial illiteracy

i've got my mothers blood - lukewarm direction knowledge and horrible financial knowledge. it's not like my dad had never taught me anything, he still does, it just goes over my head. i don't find it important i suppose, or never did, but now i feel somewhat timid for entering 'the world'.
for example, i was under the impression i have a credit card. my gf told me last night it's not really a credit card, it's a check card. but i said it had the visa logo on it and can be used as a credit card. then she explained it to me and i already forget.
things like taxes, no fucking clue. or putting money into 'mutual funds' or whatever for retirement? i have no idea. i don't understand finances, my wife or whoever will need to do all the $ work in the house one day. i'm 22 and i still do shit when it comes to taking innitiative into financial reasoning. i can write checks, barely, i still fuck them up. maybe i need to get an idiots guide to finance.
finance & politics, although politics is getting better. i've just never had interest in them and now i'm having trouble keeping up. hah, i learned not too long ago about the revolutionary war. i still know nothing about it, but 3 months ago i couldn't even tell you who faught and for what. no, i still don't really know who faught. england vs. the settlers, red coats vs. the blue, whatever. it means a lot i know - i should know this stuff but my virtues lie in other fields

Just a few words, Quicken, and electronic bill pay, it will do most of the work for you.

It can be an overwhelming pain in the ass. I was doing stuff like this at my old job, working for an accountant. I could only take so much of it before I quit. After about 2 years of it. Managing clients, administrative stuff, and my own at the same time was a little much.

I don't know about electronic bill pay. I tried it once and things got fubared. It would be alright if the money came directly out of your account and the bill was directly payed, but from what I understand, the transaction goes through some third party company and it can take a week to find out if it actually went through.
Electronic bill pay is great in theory, but I don't think they have the execution down yet.
