curious bout re-use of mushrooms

well I recently harvested my first grow and semi-dried them but was wondering, if these dont get used could I simply crush them up and use them in a second grow to possibly increase the potency? i mean i've heard adding DMT to the substrate increases potency so id think adding 4-ho-dmt to it would be better?
i dunno, seems like a good idea.

No, don't do that. It's a waste of good mushrooms.

yeah, i mean would it really be a waste if the next batch is a lot stronger?

Nobody has ever proved to my satisfaction that adding dmt or triptomines/triptophan does anything at all. Don't believe everything you read, even if it's in Stamet's books. RR

There's no gaurantee that the next batch will be a lot stronger. And even if there is an effect, chances are the difference would be negligible. I don't know for a fact though. So I mean if you have plenty of extra mushrooms that you don't mind wasting on experiments, and a gas spectrometer with which to test alkaloid content, go for it. That's how discoveries are made.

It would be a good experiment. mix powdered shroom material in with the substrate after sterilization. Worst case scenario would be one stinky contamed casing.

I disagree.. worst case scenario is loss of perfectly good shrooms.

well you have to realize that these are semi-dried. meaning unless they are used soon, they are going to turn into innactive mush(not in the sense of 'mush-room' if you know what i mean).
anyway, my thoughts are, if it doesnt add any extra psychoactive effects, at least mushrooms contain some ammount of nutrients which can be put back into the substrate. imagine a shroom casing layer :p

The shrooms will still be active and there is no way that the ones coming off them will be that much extra active. i.e. say you have 10dry grams that have degraded so much they are only the same as 5g. If you grew another 10g they will not be able to get that 5g. So your new 10g will not be equivalent to 15g, so you are better taking your new 10g and the old 10g (5g).
fuck I'm confusing myself now!

lol yeah i guess it makes sense. the shrooms live off of certain nutrients and adding psiocybin in the substrate will not make the shrooms more potent because they have no reason to absorb the psilocybin. its not a nutrient it needs to survive. but i wonder, since the shrooms are 90% water, if you were to somehow get the water all psilocybin-y, then would that do something...?

No. Mushrooms don't suck up water as if through a straw. Furthermore, they metabolyze the nutrients that the mycelia colonizes, then produce their own alkaloids. Think about it, we grow on manure, but the mushrooms do not contain manure. RR
