Well, after a hard night of thinking, I think I am going to do a 66 quart double tub. I will put 7 quarts of WBS mixed in with straw. Seeing as I've never done straw, does anyone have any helpfull hints or things to remember when using this? Is it possible to do a double tub with straw only? What do you think the contamination rate is? Thanks in advance

Pasturize that straw between 140 and 160, use 1 part spawn to 5 (or less) parts straw. Incubate anywhere between 70 to high 70s. Cover the straw with perforated plastic or foil and leave the top off. The mycelium will grow so fast contams won't have a chance.
You can go without a casing layer, but you will probably get a bigger yield, and a better 2nd flush with a casing.

Would you think it was nearly impossible using the double tub then, since there is holes on the side? I was thinking of making a makeshift wooden box around the double tubs. I would also probably use wire mesh on the side so it still gets some air circulation, but not too much for contams. Is this viable?

The biggest reason straw contaminates is pasteurizing at too high a temp or (god forbid)sterilizing it. Try to keep the pasteurization temp as close to 140F as you can, and your success rate will be higher. RR

140 is the temp I should pasturize it at? How come I kept reading between 160 and 170? Is that too high?

Straw has been great for me. I've had 1 container out of about 12 go bad. And from what I hear, so long as your substrate is properly prepared, and the tubs are sterilized, double tubs lower your contam potential.
You shouldn't need a box for the tubs, polyfil in the holes will keep contams out. Just make sure there's none in there to begin with

Ahhh. Got ya. The only thing is that my roomate is not the cleanest person in the world, and he's the only one that is going to be putting the tubs out for light. What things should I tell him so the straw will not get fucked up?

Don't open it. Direct sunlight will heat it up = bad. That's about all I can think of.

What temperature should I keep the TIT? The humidity takes care of itself, right?
