Dandruff
    #5357087 - 03/02/06 11:18 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Hey all, who suffers from this crap, it seems in winter mine gets worse, maybe something to do with the air. I have locked hair and love to let if fly free, but when my dandruff is making an appearance, Id rather just put it under a hat, its fucking embarasing.
I use some residue free soap and tea tree oil for conditioning, does any have any other suggestions as to what I could do, I wanna be free :sun: Thanks :peace:

I've never really had it. One time I shaved my head and I sun burned it, big nasty chunks of skin came off if that counts.

Shampoo, Selsun Blue or something.

All these earth tones and tree oils are fucking you up.  Your body is rejecting it.  Come back to society

That's one of the reasons I recently cut off my dreads. The winter just wreaked havoc on my scalp and the itching and dandruff were rather emabarrasing. I used Dr Bronners Soap with Tea Tree Oil every other day to every 3 days, but it didn't seem to help AT ALL. And I read that the combinations of the oils in that soap and the tea tree would help at least relieve the itch.

When I cut off my dreads I found a shit ton of dandruff all up in a few of them that were matted really close to my scalp. Not a pretty site.

You should use that Dr Bronner's to see if it at least works for you... You could also try liquid treatments such as Scalpicin, which has 3% salicylic acid in it (the same stuff used in OTC acne remedies). It won't mess up the dreads, either.

Thanks Woodscall, how long did you have your locks before you cut them. I cant imagine cutting mine right now, Ive only had them for about a year and they are coming along quite nice as far as I am concerned.
Can I get that Dr Bronners stuff at the grocery store or health food store.
The itchies are a problem sometimes for me, mainly after having a hat on for a while or wearing my lid when riding. Its just the dry dandruff, not greasy shit that bothers me.
Thanks alot for your input. :peace:

I only had my locks for 3 months :frown:

If you want, I can just send you what I have leftover of the soap; there's still half a bottle.
Giving it to you would be better than tossing it and you wouldn't have to spend any money on it either   It's really great for dreadlocks!

If you do want to purchase it, most health food stores carry it.

I know some girls that rub "chay butter" in their hair, and it keeps it nice and oily and moist and knotty.

I have a drullet and only wash it with bar soap once a month or so and i have bad dandruff.

i had it since 8th grade til ending high school.

i just realized i don't have it anymore, like right now reading this thread realized it.

maybe it's something to do with long hair. before it was just a big POOF on top of my head for skin to collect but now that it's parted and long I can't really say that I have much.

I feel a very small amount but nothing like what I used to have.....

I use selsun blue occasionally.

That's an interesting thought.. my hair is long now too. Where before I always kept it short and trimmed. Perhaps that does have something to do with it.

Those special shampoos never really helped me get rid of it either. I'm glad it's gone now, but it never really bothered me too much.

Selsun Blue.

Rumor: You do not wash dreadlocks. Hair must be dirty to dread.

Fact: If you do not wash your hair it will stink. Dreadlocked hair needs to be washed regularly just like un-dreaded hair. You can wash dreads just as you would wash a sponge, by working the soap in and then squeezing and rinsing repeatedly to get all the soap out. Clean hair will actually lock up faster than dirty or oily hair. Because nearly every soap and shampoo on the market contains residues it was thought that clean hair does not dread quickly, when in fact it is the residues (conditioners, moisterizers, builders and fragrance holders) in the soaps that prevent hair from locking up. This is why we reccommend washing you dreads only in residue free soaps and shampoos.

Ahhhhh I hate that shit. I only get it when I have hair, if I buzz my head it never bothers me. I forget the name of the shampoo I used to get rid of it, but I baught it at a pharmacy, it came in a small bottle and was pink????
