Adding additional layer of verm to already pinning casing.

Anyone ever tried this. Like after your pins mature a bit more. Say, maybe an inch tall, add more wet verm to give them even more moisture? Since sometimes the mycelium grows up the stem if your humidity is hight, it seems like they would pull moisture from the verm into the fruits. Or.. does the majority of the water content in the fruits actually come from the moisture int he air? Just a thought.

i have did this when i though i had overlay on a second flush, so i recovered the whole top. it does add moisture to the casing, and the fruits Increase only by a few inches though.
I have also done something similar to this. i added an extra nutrition layer instead of casin layer. i added about 3 more inches of substrate to the mainly spent cake and about four or five days later the mushrooms that came from it were huge. the previous flushes only produced 3-5 inch mushrooms and when i added the compost to the top they grew about 10-14 inches.
major downfall of this is it takes way to long for the underneith mycellium to colonize with the volume of substrate i added. nothing contamed but still took to long for my to say it was worth the end result.

Awesome... I will have to give this a shot. Should adding a layer of coir/poo/verm to a spent casing yeild similar results of such ginormous shrooms?

This would be bad if you're hoping to have more than one flush.

i did it for second flushes to see if there would be a noticeable differance in size of the mushrooms. it really only works for later flushes. otherwise you would be wasteing the myceliums energy on a non-nutritious substrate which in turn wastes more time that you could be eating or they could be growing.

I just want to have some dried 14" fruits that I could yield like a magical want and cast spells before I sent it through the grinder. Or maybe paint it neon green and put it in a shadow box.

Do you guys realize your initial pinset creates not just your first flush but also your second, third and more? By cover those developing pins you are destroying that light and fresh air that they need to grow strong and healthy.

I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"

if you want big mushries use a 3-5 inch substrate depth. also burma is a great strain for 14 inchers at 3" substrate depth.
