Alternative to Using Lids for Birthed Cakes
    #5354094 - 03/01/06 04:23 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

As I prepare to birth my 10 BRF jars, I want to reuse the jars for a second go around. So, I'll won't be able to birth my jars on top of them.

I've search through dozens of posts about this but I'm still a little unclear on what else I could use. I heard so guy say he uses foil. I don't plan on birthing right on top of the perlite b/c of the risk of contam's, pinning from the bottom, etc.

So what else can I use besides foil. I was trying to think of something practical that I have laying around the house (a piece of Tyvek? I got plenty of that). I'm just trying to avoid going out and having to buy plastic lids or keeping my 1/2 pint jar unproductive during fruiting.

Thanks fellow Shroomheads.:regularshroom:

Go to the grocery store and buy a new box of lids. It costs about 3 dollars. Comes with a dozen rings and a dozen lids. Problem solved.

*Edit: Sorry, didn't read well enough.

Petree dishes...or go to the gas station a snag some lids from there...As long as they are in a fruting chamber I would assume it would be fine!

Or make casings with your cakes, leaving the jars free! Better flush anyways.

Go and pick up some of these

I got them from a garden shop , 5 cents a piece .

Worked great when I did cakes . Fill them with some damp verm.

They space the cakes apart just right
