Thing is, I don't have a spot to leech then. Couldn't I just search the pile for poo that doesn't smell like ammonia?

Yeah, you could, that'd be just fine. The stuff that doesn't smell like shitty ammonia has most likely already been naturally leached. Although it might look somewhat odd if you walk around and inspect/smell the poo. I suppose you could just say that the plants you have are sensitive to ammonia or something.

yea, good plan. But what if the poo had been in the stable for the whole time? It wouldn't be leached then, right?

Alright, when you get the poo, how would you go about sterilizing it? and is there anything you would add to as a mix, or just straight poo?

Fresh poo that is leached by soaking isn't as good as poo that has been aged naturally. This is because the aged stuff has had more time for other beneficial microbes to grow. If your interested in what makes poo better then other substrates read this.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4532477#Post4532477

If your having difficulty with things like a location for leeching etc, I suggest placing an order for dry manure from tennstud. 10lbs of DRY poo is A LOT and can be stored for a long time.

Yeah, you can quick leach it by putting it in a pillow case or a bucket/tub with holes in it (pillowcase would be preferable because you can squeeze the water out till the poo is at field capacity) and letting a hose run water through it for like 30 min to an hour.  Then proceed to pasteurize, or do poo grow bags, or whatever you have in store for it.

But just so you know, it would be preferable to get aged, leached poo rather than doing it yourself as the aged poo will have the beneficial live and dead microbes and whatnot.

::EDIT:: yeah, musher beat me to the punch, but the advice stands the same

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Cat/0/Board/subtrates

That is a link to the substrate section of the Cultivation Archive. Agar and Roadkill both have good teks w/ step-by-step procedures in there. I believe they're like the second and third entry or something like that.

Kind of in the same baot. Mate picked up some hpoo from a road horses go along which turns out not to be quite as aged as we hoped. Left it outside to dry out in the sun but thanks to our shity unpredictable wheatehr its been soaked by the rain several times. Just doesn't get a chancr to dry out so its been put in the shed.

Hopefully it will be dry enough to use soon.

Ill need to pick some up before summer end there should be aged stuff by now.

Trouble is. That it keeps raining so it gets soaked

If it's been rained on several times then it's fine.  You don't need to dry it all the way out, just below field capacity.  Then get it correctly moistened and pastuerize.

Yeah 'field-aged' manure with firefang is the best, but as long as it doesn't smell like urine you're good to go.  Road-shit works just fine

If you pasteurize in a pillow case, submerged in water, there's no such thing as too wet.

Otherwise, you can always squeeze the excess water out of the poo, though having patience and waiting is always good too.

Yeah it looks good.

Nice nugget of mushies you've got there.  Should put that in the hunting forum and see what it is.
