to case during incubation or not to case during incubation...

... THAT is the question!
my first 2 casings i spawned cased and incubated. of course i couldnt tell how well the myc ran the substrate except by seeing if any myc appeared on top of the casing layer. after 3 days i patched and fruited one of them, and after 5 days i patched and fruited the other.both of the casings started pinning at the same time, and appear to have the same quantity of pins. also, most casing pics ive seen had myc on top of teh casing layer, but mine are pinning without haveing myc ontop. is that an indication of a problem in my fc?
a 3rd casing i started incubating 4 days ago without a casing layer. im gonna case and fruit it today. im theorizing that by letting the myc run the substrate first, then casing, they myc will all "explore" the casing layer at the same time, which would result in them pinning relativly evenly.
remeber theyre like little soldiers running around taking over whatever they can. once theyve gotten all the substrate and suddently are introduced to the casing layer (which may actually hurt em a bit being heavy and all that), theyll all be like "Attack!!!" then theyll see that theres nothing there, and be like
"oh.. nothign there mates... what you wanna do?"
"i dunno... what you wanna do?"
"ive got it!!.... oh.. wait. no."
"oh oh oh... uhh.... hmmm."
"how bout we make mushies?"
"ah yes.. do."
and thats how i graduated from high school.

dont case your substrate before its colonized.
