how much do you remember?

I've been wondering about this lately.
I drink quite a bit, and wonder if it affects my memory.
Would remember a specific, non-evenful night with your friends from over a year ago?
I mean, say you went to the same bar every weekend for like eight months, would you remember every specific night? If not, how much would you remember?
I'm just wondering what the average is, cheers

Well, I go to the arcade every weekend and get really stoned...I guess that's close to the same situation. Anyways, I generally remeber each time if something really fun happens (Like running into a friend I haven't seen in 5 years, like a few days ago)...but if it's just like my average time there, I don't remember it...just because nothing is worth remembering.

I don't remember a damn thing. I say I remember things from my childhood, but I only "remember" them because of pictures I've seen. I can't recall things easily at all. I'm really good at remembering if I've seen someone before though.

I think many of the old memories, like those of early childhood, are memories of remembering the occurence.
If you remember something, then later remember it again, there is a good chance your remembering the memory, not the event.

Haha, this might make you feel worse.... before I started smoking/drinking I had a damn near photographic memory. Coincidence? I dunno. I know people who have smoked/drank longer than I have and don't have the same problems.

Definitely.
And about the original question, sometimes yes sometimes no. Depends on the night; even if it was uneventful I may remember it for some reason, like something I thought or how I felt.
But I don't remember EVERY night. I used to be able to do that when I was younger, but not anymore. Since I was 15 it's been going down for me.

THIS post was the best thing that I could ever read today...I just came up from the video store..the asked me for the secret code of the card...i never remembered it...my boyfriend was with me and we started to fight because he says he ALWAYS has to remember the things for me...UNFAIR. drugs do that! he doesn't understand...

thank you for letting me know I'm still sane
I think I still have, on balance, a poor long-term memory, but it's not like it's brain-damage

Memory works in strange ways.
My long term memory is alright. About normal I'd imagine. I don't write down any of my homework or appointments and I tend to not forget about them. Events aren't recorded frame by frame like a movie though. You only vividly remember something that really catches your attention. Otherwise it's all sort of vague impressions rather than concrete images or memories. Generally these memories are not very accurate.
My short term memory is great, though. I can remember long strings of numbers, etc, for up to a few hours no problem. This is from school, I always have to memorize numbers temporarily to save time solving problems and stuff. It's practice.
The problem with long term memories of events is you just don't remember the mundane. You only remember key events and your mind sometimes reconstructs a certain event wrong.
Smoking weed is horrible for your memory. Drinking is bad but not to the same degree.

I wouldn't worry about it at all man, I do and it's whorthless.
I mean, I've clearly noticed that when I was 13-15yo I could share my attention to 2-3 conversations at the same time and get EVERYTHING, remember every word on my favourite movies, read a text and understand everything no matter how complex it was on first reading, etc.
Then I started losing those capabilities and I DID notice I just couldn't do it anymore. I just took it as something natural since I always heard my mother tell me how she coulnd't do two things at the same time.
I just think it's most probably the way the brain develops towards maturity
So no need to think you're going insane man, also remember that we're all brighter some days than others If you really feel bad about this try looking into some memmonics papers, but I couldn't be bothered really.
As I always say: "I'm insane, not stupid"

So anyone that studies/studied psychology remember anything about manufactured memories? It's been a while since I had psychology classes, but I remember watching a video of psychological lawyers or something making people remember stuff that never happened
For example, the guy would say "And then what did the bank robber do with the gun?"
And even though the robbery was done without a gun, the dude would start thinking, "remember" the gun and then "remember" what the guy did with it. It was nuts.

the funny thing about drinking alot and memory with me is that I'll remember some nights, but what I'll really only remember is how drunk I was and the setting I was in...
for instance, i'll remember getting really drunk at a bar or a concert, and i'll remember having a great time doing it, but I won't really remember what made it so much fun.
I highly doubt that makes any sense....
